Goober here, the game is brainless.

They opened Pandora's box with the power creep and there is no going back. Not to say that the game used to be hard or anything, but they drastically scaled up player power to the point where you can brute force your way through every objective now.

A long time ago frames like Nyx and Vauban were hailed as the best because the meta was purely CC and mob TTK was a lot longer (still short) than it is now. The game is a lot more 'Anime' than it ever used to be and its a pity because there is no tension or real strategy involved. It really zaps the fun out of having unique enemy types.

It's carried hard by the fact that it fills a niche. Rebecca has actually made a lot of improvements since taking over from Steve, but unfortunately updates are still pretty slow. So I'll give Steven that, it's best as bite size gameplay. You play a little bit when an update comes out, and then put it back on the shelf. I find The flaws Warframe has much less apparent when you play it like that.

I miss the good days of Destiny 2 so much, I even miss the times when the game was pretty bad because now it's literally dead. I don't think we'll ever get an MMO with this level of fun gameplay and polish. Destiny is infinitely more fun.
It's just more fun to shoot, move, and use abilities. Destiny is also a much more balanced and well-thought-out experience. At its best, it all worked like a well-oiled machine. Warframe on the other hand is very easy, lacks impact and junk. Again, I don't think Warframe is a bad game, but I can't even put them even close. I also think Warframe is just ugly. Most of the guns, Warframes, and enemies look like trash.
There's nothing more enjoyable in video games than throwing hammers in Destiny, and you won't be able to change my mind

I'm going to assume everyone knows of WoW/FFXIV/GuildWars2 and the other big current theme parks, the older games like EverQuest, SWG, and City of Heroes including private servers etc... so otherwise keep an eye on stuff like

Definitely a smaller title but gets frequent updates with new content an there's a fuckload of player and GM events.

Easily the most immersive MMO around even on the alpha. Comprehensive sci-fi setting, and lots of shit to do even in the incomplete alpha. Community feels like the oldfag days where people generally help each other out ; I've had people fly from one planet to another to help get me off world, and then offer to finish the current live event's stuff I still needed to do . There are "Free fly" events for those without a game key but these tend to have a big glut of players. All you need to play is a game package w/ key, all the other crowdfunding shit is available in game (ie ships, most cosmetics) when ready. Not perfect, demanding on the hardware but nothing else quite like it; lets hope they don't fuck it up.

It's frustrating, as someone who's played off and on for years soooo much of the early appeal I found is just... gone.
The story and lore stuff I'm interested in seeing more of is never properly expanded on, it takes them years to release these half baked story quests that amount to about an hour and change of cutscenes and non-repeated gameplay segments, the *paid* cosmetics are good, but only a few are actually worth buying, grind gets worse seemingly with every update, and the developers have fundamentally misunderstood how to make combat properly engaging.
Reb's based taste as a female gooner director only goes so far.

Warframe and Destiny 2 are the future of MMOs. It's the most logical step in an era of people who refuse to do anything that isn't instanced. Hell look at modern WoWfags or even better look at XIVfags. Warframe at least seems to have devs that are genuine, retarded but genuine and D2/Bungie fucked themselves over by being even greedier than ActiBlizzard.

It's like you have all these different activities and missions that you play for ten hours, farm everything you want, and never return to them because they play like everything else in the game and don't have any rewards that are worth your while.

I've always thought that MMOs weren't depend on population but rather how the players within that MMO interact.
FFXIV is not an MMO because the game does not intertwine players together and there are so many ways to avoid playing with anyone altogether. It's a singleplayer game that you can't really call an RPG at this point because of the complete stripping of the mechanics.
FFXI is an MMO despite being built for a smaller population because players have to constantly interact.
It's not a perfect definition but it's how I tend to define it. The presence of others only satisfies the 'massively multiplayer' part but not the 'rpg' part, and it's an 'MMORPG' not one or the other so it's also a specific kind of RPG that takes advantage of the MMO part.

Anthem's core gameplay, especially with a party with communication, is gold. It's just stuck in so much shit that you have to wade through. The story is bad, the characters are bad, walking through the town is slow and terrible. Most damning was how the loot at launch was just pulling itemization from damage so base gear was maximum power and everything else diluted it, making you get weaker as you found 'better' stuff. That and the lack of anything meaningful to do after you finished the story

In 3 days I can have a new frame that will never be taken away from me I can freely swap to. All my other progression remains, so I don't have to do the same bullshit quests to "catch up" my new frame to current content. etc etc.

I also did a bit of thinking and the longest timegate in the entire game is Necraloid standing. Its about 9 days, with MR10 standing limits. To build a Skyscale in GW2 its 12 days, minimum. And thats a short timegate in that game.

You also get a fair amount by doing the most rewarding content in each. Iso Vaults give lots for Deimos, Orbs give plenty on Fortuna and Eidolons give a bunch on Cetus. So you naturally stockpile a good amount just doing that content.

NTA but I've done 2 hour survival missions on steep path where I just sit in the same room and let my abilities kill everything. It's not a hard game. I'm not even attacking Warframe, it just is what it is. If you've built your Warframe correctly, you're almost unkillable and never run out of energy.

It's not even really a bad thing. I play Helldivers 2 where it feels like the game is fucking you raw, and then I play Warframe and fuck that game raw and it feels like a release. They scratch different itches.

lol wut. The forma and potato system in TFD is waaaaay more generous than in Warframe, and it only take 6 hours to build TFD's forma instead of Warframe's 24 hours.

You can also easily grind up the materials needed for the forma/potato equivalents. Doesn't take that long either. Warframe is way more jewy about it.

Overall though, I don't want to paint a false picture kek. It's easier to farm premium currency in Warframe than in most other f2p games, in TFD there is no way to farm premium currency, but the potato/forma farm is not the problem.

I came back to the First Descendant after a long break and had fun for about a month trying out Serena and Ultimate Luna. They are definitely making decent improvements to the game but there's just really not much to do after you catch up on all the updates. The big open world Axion Planes zone just feels lifeless and dull and by this point you've likely ran ever dungeon till you're completely bored. Just take a break like I'm doing again and maybe there will be something fun again to do eventually

Oh yeah, I know. Even with Warframe, I've taken multi-year breaks before coming back. I just wish they could somehow crank out content for TFD faster. The worst "problem" that Warframe has is that there is no group content. You can just solo everything. It's not even particularly hard to do. This is what makes it such a forever-game for me. I can just fuck off for a year or two, come back, grind the shit out of the new stuff that I've missed, quit until I'm bored, wait for a while, repeat. And the best thing is, I don't have to pay for anything. Making the in-game premium currency tradable is a fucking godsend. You just sell off your excess junk and you can skip the grind for anything you don't feel like grinding. I don't know whether this is a positive or a negative for the devs. Obviously people are forced to buy less currency, so that's a negative, but at the same time you have a healthy playerbase engaging with the game that props it up for the fags who do spend money. Since this shit has been going for over 12 years now, I guess it's profitable to some degree, at the very least.

Creating loadouts in a way that is enjoyable for you is fun. If you want "endgame", you have weekly three-mission "marathons" with randomized gear and random modifiers nowadays. It kinda forces you to engage with equipment that you don't use that often. Or you can just ignore it if you feel like it if you know what you're doing.

That's more a failure of the way ability damage works than anything else. You've got your few standouts where you can go spreadsheet mode to multiply the output enough to matter, the few that will scale to enemy level on their own, and then 90% of them that aren't useful for doing damage to enemies past Lv50. It basically all still balanced around normal mode Sedna being the apex of typical content.
