I fell asleep when trying to play PoE 1.
2 was a bit better but I got stuck on a dragon boss who could just regen all the damage I did despite my character pretty much 1 shotting regular mobs and the game softlocked me in that specific dungeon with the last save 2 hours ago so RIP in piss.

They are not without merits but PoE1 was such a disappointment for me causei had so high hopes, that will teach me.
PoE2 was so damn boring overall, shitty stakes from start to end.
At least both games had one (1) good DLC, and i really liked the idea of the Endless Paths of Od Nua even if it wasnt that well implemented (not to mention the shitty keep "minigame")
Overall a 7/10 that was made worse cause i dared to hope and an unremarkable 6/10

Neat. I didn't mind the RTwP system at all, but might replay the game to test this out. The best part about this is that Obsidian hasn't forgotten about CRPGs and I feel like they're testing the waters for a potential new game.

Great, another real time with pauseslop game that added turn based so I can play a cludgey version of combat that takes 10 times longer getting through the hundreds of trash combat encounters designed around a real time party mowing through them in seconds. The direct symptoms of that is that godlikes are dying and not being born (Though a character in the game suggests that this is because the gods are preparing for war, so they're basically calling out their mana back to them). Other than that, not enough time has passed for that to be noticeable. Realistically, how many decades or even centuries would it take for people to start realizing the wheel is broken? It's not like it's ever entirely clear how it works to begin with.

You can't do everything in a RT game because there's just too many things a human being could actually do in combat to fit into RT controls, but in RTwP you can - it has infinite command depth just like turnbased does. I do find it funny that back during the kickstarter era, all fantasy RPGs were real time and all sci fi/post-apocalypse RPGs were turn based. just no confidence in the genre for its own merits, just a vehicle for exploiting nostalgia.

rtwp sucks because it has all of the disadvantages of real time and turn based and none of the advantages. first consider what is required to actually play the game fully in real time. most rtwp games have 6 character party members with 10 second rounds. it takes a minimum of 3 actions to command one character for one round. to command each party member that's 18 actions every 10 seconds or 180 actions per minute, enough to play any non-starcraft rts game at a pro level. for most rpgboomers is this basically impossible, meaning that the game either has to be designed for pausing to be mandatory instead of optional, or else for most of your party to function without any player input. most rtwp games end up doing both. the result is a system where most of your characters have nothing worth paying attention to and run completely on autopilot, but you are still pausing every 10 seconds anyway to control your wizards and read through the combat log. the only advantage of rtwp is that it lets you speed through boring trash encounters, which shouldn't even be a problem to begin with if the game was designed better.
