They're literally just lazy, not publicly traded and value their time.
There's no one pushing them to do dumb shit and if they put their hand on the stove, then they aren't going to ride or die burning their hand off so they can look stronk for shareholders, they're just going to take their hand off the stove after the weekend (this is still fucking Valve, it's easy to imagine them not pushing a bad update on a Friday and going radio silent for 3 days).

Valve is greedy. They keep skirting consumer protection laws to compel people to gamble. They won't give away Half-Life for free. Even Activision-Blizzard gives away Starcraft.
