Are Exclusives a GOOD Thing in 2025?
Or do they show lack of confidence in the platform alone?

yes

Money is the only thing that matters, ever. PlayStation and Nintendo are the only ones in a position where they have rabid fanbases that will purchase their games and consoles at any price. There are a fuck ton of PC players that will never buy a PlayStation and Sony knows this. It's smart for them to throw their games on PC. Wish Nintendo did the same. Xbox on the other hand has had declining hardware sales since the Xbox One. They know this, so they've been working on a future that sees them potentially eliminate hardware all together. It's working for them despite retards online claiming "it's over". God I hate people who are so fucking loyal to brands. It's genuinely disgusting.

Unless you're Nintendo and make tablets and low graphics games, the cost of making games is simply too expensive to limit your audience anymore. Of course, that’s not even including marketing, the costs of which are as much and more than the game budget itself. You watch, even as we're on the cusp of 2030s and the age of AI slop, game development costs will keep going up anyway.

Xbox is gonna drop out of the console race after the next generation, so every AAA 100+ GB major release is gonna be PS5 exclusive while Nintendo consoles get to keep the Nintendo made stuff as their exclusives

Exclusives are objectively a good thing not only for the consumer, but for the market. It creates niches on platforms that allow games that otherwise wouldn't have succeeded or had a chance to form on the broader market, it allows for more experimentation that can actually succeed, it fosters healthy competition, and it allows each manufacturer to focus on certain aspects of their platform and nourish that platform.

PC should have exclusives, Nintendo should have exclusives, Sony should have exclusives, and Microsoft should have exclusives. You should not be able to purchase them on other platforms. Crysis never should have been ported, Sony's first party games never should have been ported, and Microsoft never should have ported any of their games to PC. There's a reason why Nintendo keeps their exclusives close to their chest and the only time they ever ported anything was to specifically get into the Chinese market via the Nvidia Shield because they're PC-only and heavy pirates so they had to try somehow, and even those copies of the games are heavily DRMed and locked down.

The people who want a multiplat future want gaming to die and don't understand the value of each system having niches that allow games to flourish instead of compete in a market they can get no visibility in.

They made sense in a time when they were cheaper to make and the consoles themselves turned a profit. Nintendo is still playing that game, and are doing fine.

There is nothing preventing devs from making A or AA budget games, they just keep pumping the money into AAA projects they gamble with on repeat and can't restrain themselves like Sony with R&C or Astro Bot where even on lower budget projects they still feel the need to funnel money into it.

Squeenix does this just fine with their smaller games like Harvestella, I am Setsuna, Lost Sphear, even Octopath Traveler. I don't understand why Sony can't get their head out of their ass and do the same when they will still have their money burning franchises alongside the smaller budget ones.
