Why do Sonic fans refuse to literally play any other video game mascots despite the era they loved being so long gone and far removed?

Sonic is never going to be Sonic ever again, It's literally toddlercore now and there's nothing you can do.

Have you tried talking to fans of any other games? There are way worse IPs to be fans of, like Crash Bandicoot. What's the problem with Sonic in particular? At least he's still getting games, and the quality of games has gone up a lot this decade compared to the mid to late 2010s. Being a Sonic fan during the Boom/Forces era was pretty bad. People actually like Sonic now because the games and movies have had positive reception.

I don't think he's going away no matter how hard he bombs at this point, like Bubsy. I still don't understand how Bubsy is still around.

Sonic is also a part of a niche sub-genre of platforming games. There's not that many other games that are also in the high-speed platforming genre, especially with the same budget & marketing but there are a few that are very good like Freedom Planet & Spark the Electric Jester

i blame spark fans for how they market the game more than anything. i always see them try to tell sonic fans to play their game because "IT'S SONIC BUT BETTER" rather than articulating points as to why it's good and like yeah don't get me wrong, I honestly do believe it's one of the best Sonic games; but you're not going to get anyone to play your game by saying their favorite game is shit. Growing up, Sonic was my nigga. I had plushies, I bought a Saturn, I bought a Dreamcast. Fuck Nintendo.
Then I played the Mario games as an adult and had to admit to myself that Mario was the better platformer all along.
