I really have no idea who hard games are for. Back in the 90s, sure, hard games gave you a bit more value out of a game which could probably be beaten in one sitting if it wasn't so hard. That would suck, since we only got new games for our birthday and Christmas. Also useful for developers, since making the player replay the same part over and over, meant you needed less assets and could use smaller, cheaper EPROMs.
But why are they still around today? We have more games than we could ever hope to finish thanks to Steam. There's no need to artificially extend the runtime of a game with difficulty, you can just start a new game if you finish it. So who are they for? The only people I can think of, are people who are looking to have some kind of accomplishment to make up for the fact they feel like they don't have anything like this in their real lives.

This is why arcades need to reopen in full swing and filter all these gameplay first retards there. The medium has moved past that in the 2000s but were held back from reaching full potential because these fake hard games started to infest the space with their cancer.

Because learning mechanics, honing your skills, and overcoming challenges is fun. I dunno about you guys but I like playing video games because they are fun. Not every game needs to be like pulling teeth to have fun but there is still plenty of space for difficulty.

There's about a hundred slop movie games for braindead niggers like you for every "fake hard" game. Go play them.

>the only value in a game is in trying to beat it
>once you have beaten it there's no more value and you move on
And what if I actually like the video game and not the dopamine rush of being able to check a box on my backlog?

ADHD runs rampant around zoomers and gen xers grew up with mindless Atarislop. Millennials are smart enough to ditch arcadeslop for more meaningful games that have more than one dimensional gameplay. It's why zoomers love soulsslop and millennials detest it since millennials know there were better stuff growing up.

What is wrong with wanting story and context in your games that isn't push one button to kill pixels on the screen for high scores or validation?

Silksong isn't even actually hard, it just punishes you for playing it wrong, especially if you came in with a lot of preconceptions from Hollow Knight.

What's wrong is there's 100s of them, and you're not playing.
Instead, you're here to bitch about ONE hard game.
Fuck you.
Fuck your mom.

The real issue is corpse runbacks and gimmicky platform seccions aren't "hard". They're "hard" in a World of Warcraft sense. It wants to punish you by wasting your time. There's a good game underneath it all but I shouldn't have to use mods to make the game playable

Tranny did you watch the video? The faggot literally says Silksongs difficulty has a point and failure is only the player's fault for hitting their head against a wall instead of exploring somewhere else....

the faggot literally says whatever the current narrative is telling him to say. The entire channel is basically "the popular game sure is popular cause it's good probably". Just one of those hype dickriders that have no actual care about game design. It's the same retard that made boss keys, the most fucking braindead and useless analysis of zelda dungeons.

I like hard games that are fun. If you're playing something that is hard but you're not having fun then it's just not the right game for you. Souls-likes and 2D platformers that intentionally do this isn't the only form of hardcore. There's many different kinds to engage with. In short stop looking at it from the Dark Souls plebeian perspective. Higher difficulty feels rewarding when you're actually engaging with something that is meshes with your interests more and the souls fag is just looking for bragging rights. To give an example: Pathologic is pretty brutal in its difficulty, but for me it was a decent alternative kind of hard and it kept me going. It doesn't need to all be the same formula. I finally put the pieces together that I only found games frustrating if I wasn't enjoying them. Sometimes they don't even feel so difficult once you're really invested.
Anonymous No.724924824 [Report]
The whole point of play is to train yourself to overcome challenges in a safe environment. That shit is hardwired into our brains. Humans have exploited the shit out of that system in the form of video games. It ticks so many boxes in your brain. Novel experiences, learning and using skills, seeing something through or completing something, overcoming challenges, even single player games will tickle the social part of your brain a little. A difficult game just ups the rewards. It's not worth it to everyone, sure, but people that enjoy challenges simply crave challenges.

It's just fun, dude. If it's not fun for you that's fine, but you don't have to project so hard.
