Great console for half of its life, second half is mostly good versions of multiplats but overall less interesting.

Do you remember when people hated achievements? It used to be a talking point on online forums and here, do miss how care free it all was.

The Xbox Arcade and its indie scene were actually cool. Blows ass that microsoft just left that shit to die.

they were truly one of the early pioneers of bringing indie games to mainstream and they squandered it. i didn't even have a 360 for most of the gen but i recognized them as the main ones for that (though wii ware was pretty good too)

Damn I totally forgot about wii ware. Remember when Nintendo used to SELL ports of their own old games for $10-$20?

As soon as the Jasper versions were out RROD wasn't really a problem your fan or disc drive will probably die first.

The absolute peak and then immediate death knell of console gaming.
>starts with the peak blade UI design with available themes to download
>seamless integration with other devices such as MP3 players and being able to rip songs from CDs
>strong first party titles and excellent selection of third party titles along with XBLA

Fast forward a few years
>awful UI change introduces bloated, ugly panels and breaks most themes
>absolute failed attempt to reel in the waggling Wii audience with Avatars and Kinect
>no longer can you plug an ipod or non-MS branded MP3 player and just play music right from it through the Xbox
It’s still astounding how MS had the market by the balls when the 360 launched and then proceeded to shit the bed for the last 20 years.

Was cool. I remember being REALLY excited for party chats but was also really sad when I realized it killed people talking in-game. I miss talking with the strangers I was playing with and I still do.

I liked when games used achievements to actually unlock stuff, like in Dead Rising or Halo 3.

My favorite 360 moment was when I was playing cod4 and some black guy had rap playing over his mic and I told him to mute his shit, he muted and sent me a 20 second long audio of background music and ended with a "shut the fuck up nigga", good times.

Looking back I can see a little bit of where the Don Mattrick Xbox team were coming from with the TV multimedia stuff. The 360 had some good exclusives from 2005-2008 sure, but what kept people interested was playing online with their friends, chatting in XBL parties, using it as an all purpose netflix box, maybe even a music player.
The real problem with that though is that they tried marketing an entire console from those features, those features were important for consoles to have but not important enough to justify buying one when the system itself is a crappy console with nogaemz.
I think Sony realized this earlier on in the gen, which is why they were able to course correct with the PS4, while Xbox stayed stuck in the "let's do everything but make a good gaming console" mentality.
And I think another reason why Xbox failed so hard after this gen was because they looked too much at following Nintendo than Sony. Nintendo have great first party games, that was what sold the Wii. The Kinect was never going to be as good as the Wii because Xbox couldn't develop and market great first party Kinect games. They missed the forest for the trees, they should've focused on competing with Sony rather than Nintendo.

That's really all I have to say about the 360. Some good ideas but out of touch executives ended up not understanding why their own product was so successful, so the latter half of its life was unfortunately rather mediocre.

Yes. Even ads would make fun of anyone who actually cared about them.
