The Switch 1 proved that accessibility + fun games are all Nintendo needs to do.

You'd still be playing on a fixed platform with fixed specifications. We can easily see this problem with the PS5 and PS5 pro, where inefficiency simply expands to fill all available space.
And it's not even a case of games looking better and thus performing worse due to demands on hardware, games look worse and perform worse, but increasingly poorly managed projects manage to hit their deadlines with crap work.

It's literally pointless these days. People who want to play games on the best of the best hardware are a shrinking demographic, and their needs are satiated by $4000 PCs.
A good looking PS4 game is fine by modern standards. RDR2 is still one of the best looking games out there. People can hardly tell that it's "dated".

Here's the thing though, Games will still be developed for the generational standard set by the PS5 and XSeX and their eventual successors. It's unlikely the Switch 2 will get much in the way of new games from third-parties, once again settling for the sloppy seconds of the past generation but with worse performance, all to accompany a portability feature even more half-assed than its predecessor.

It was wild playing MGR a bunch on PS3 and then getting it on PC later and realizing how shit the console experience was. From what I've seen, all the console makers have simply been selling weak hardware, outclassed already on release for several generations now. Because they've picked the lane where portability and functionality is more important to them than technical specs, and given how it has worked for them, I don't blame them for doubling down with it on Switch 2. Back in Wii era, they knew they could never compete in the race for better graphics against Xbox and Playstation on home consoles and they had cornered the handheld market pretty well so they decided to combine both and while the Wii U was an abomination, they learned their lessons and made smart decisions from then on.

TLDR: It's not that they can't make a technically impressive console, it's that they don't want to with their current business strategy.

Eh, both the n64 and gamecube had the same problem, which was lack of full sized disks. The N64 is objectively a stronger console than the ps1, but it didn't matter because the cart size meant smaller textures and less expansive audio. Gamecube it didn't even matter, as soon as the ps2 was announced to be able to play DVDs it was over.
