Indie games don't offer a replacement for the things I love about games

A Hat in Time doesn't have that problem, nor does yellow taxi, I think you just need to play better games OP

Las one for good measure

They're supposed to be 5 different games by 5 different people/teams, but they look and feel identical, more accurately they feel like the basic Unity 3D environments with a couple of assets haphazardly thrown onto them, and none of them create the impression of an environment that exists for anything outside of platforming

On the other hand you'd never mistake a Spyro level for a Crash level, or a Rayman level for a Sly level, and all of them managed to create the impression of being just slices of greater worlds that exist outside the level boundaries, and the platforming challenges were basically hidden beneath the exterior

>>724933681
They absolutely do though
Anonymous No.724933934 [Report] >>724934147
honestly i don't think you actually play any indie games there are plenty that don't go the Mario 3D World route, such as
>a hat in time
>big catch tacklebox
>corn kidz 64
>tchia
>psychonauts 2
>solar ash
>bomb rush cyberfunk
>hover
>trip's voyage
Anonymous No.724934050 [Report]
>>724933116 (OP)
Usually they're drawing inspiration from Sonic or the more technical parts of the 3D Mario games which means the levels are big and linear and there's too much effort to make them feel like they're part of a larger world when you just want to move fast and jump a lot.
Anonymous No.724934090 [Report]
>>724933925
maybe they focus more on the gameplay because good environments are impossible for 3D indie
these games aren't finished are they? that one has a dev texture in it

>>a hat in time
>>tchia
>>trip's voyage
>not looking and feeling exactly like the examples ITT

>>psychonauts 2
>indie

>>bomb rush cyberfunk
>>hover
>a 3D platformer

Big Catch is okay visually but the environments still feel empty and like platforming is their only purpose, Corn Kidz is good but its an extremely rare exception

tchia is the most naturalistic environment you will find in a 3d platformer. you don't even play these games, you're just getting mad at screenshots, aren't you?

Those levels are shoeboxes. Tchia feels like an actual island.

>Tchia feels like an actual island.
Firstly, it doesn't, secondly, even if it actually recreated real life it'd make for a shit game

The point of art in media is curation and interpretation of real life, not rote recreation, that's why movies only show the important stuff in 90-120 minutes from the angles the director chooses instead of sitting you down for a week-month as you watch all the trivial events of a story unfold

small compressed level with everything of interest close together > large empty level where everything of interest is spread across large empty areas
Anonymous No.724936171 [Report]
I can actually explain this.
The reason for this is because the overwhelming majority of indie devs disregard game design and level design as disciplines and instead focus on making singular disjointed mechanics "feel good" or cranking out art assets. This happened largely thanks to you retards calling level designers "idea guys" so now indie devs have no clue how to design levels, or worse, WHY should they do it. A lot of them go for procgen as a means to sidestep level design entirely and since you retards buy that shit, you get what OP was complaining about.

/v/ will only talk about it because coombait but it is a faithful Jak 2 clone but instead of a hoverboard you have long-jump-kicks which are pretty sweet.

how in the sweet mother of Crap are Hover and BRC not 3d platformers? literally all you do is jump around in those games. is it not a platformer if there aren't bottomless pits every five feet?

There's a billion indie 3D platformers, I find it hard to believe you can't find a single one to your tastes.
If you said something that people almost never make games of like RTS or something I'd get you but 3D platformers have always been a dime a dozen since like 2010.
