As much as I like the new guts upgrades and improvements, for now even with the most busted supports, it's quite hard to have high guts with 1100+ speed/stam/power.
I imagine with new scenarios it will be easier to spread your high stats across the entire board. However, umas like Haru and Rice will still benefit now as they have +20% bonus training on guts.

Went 14-6 today. 3 losses were from Golshi. A loss from Teio and Vodka. Can't even get mad.
Didn't see that many Front, all S.Maru jobs since they only put her as a sole Front, and other trainers are too lazy to train Fronts.
Somehow every race give me Rushed/Late Start, and there is a race with 2 Rushed AND 2 Late Start (still win though).
Overall I'm happy everyone can win just like what I want.

stam debuffer; nice nature or wedding mayano, same thing but you load up on flustered / subdued x & mystic murmur + all seeing eye. since all seeing eye is a cone aoe from nice nature's field of view, you can make the cone narrower and longer by getting late surger savvy.

stamina debuffers are stronger when they work, but do nothing unless they manage to deplete the opponent's stamina enough. murmur activates inconsistently and the gaze can be outranged by fronts. i'd recommend running speed debuffers in this cm.

If you are training an uma with 20% guts or speed gains you are bound to get those stats up to speed faster even if you just focus on one or the other, the real check is still getting appropiate parents to inherit enough stamina to build your deck around not just having enough of it but also enough guts speed and power with some wit on the side.
And even then not all CMs are longs and mediums, we have quite a few miles, sprints and even dirt races in the pipeline.

Doing so, I wanted to check, when considering the 3 Skills you need to activate to set off Groundwork, do Concentration/Focus work, even if you don't roll a Late Start? My understanding was that they would only be activated to prevent a Late Start. So, after the patch, would

You're completely misunderstanding these skills. They always activate (wit check). At the start of a race all umas roll reaction check, how long it takes for them to react and start running. If this roll is too high you get a "late start" indicator.

Focus reduces the start delay by 10% and Concentration by 60%.
