I did upgrade my OS, just not to windows 11. All the games I personally want to play run through proton without issues, I didn't allow kernel level anticheat spyware games on my computer before even remotely considering linux as an option.

OP, if Microsoft wants to make a pre-debloated, telemetry free, ad free, onedrive free, copilot free, firefox pre-installed instead of edge, more customizable version of windows that comes with nothing except the windows security suite and a default desktop environment, that always has "no" as an option instead of "remind me in 3 days", I will come back to Windows and use the linux stuff I got used to in WSLg, I promise.

I built a new PC recently and I spent weeks dreading Windows 11 because everything I heard about it was bad, but now I have it and it's literally just Windows 10 except the file explorer is slightly better. I got IoT LTSC so maybe all the bad stuff is on the regular version.

wine has some overhead true, but that doesn't stop some games from performing better on linux. linux games are also much more common than anon seems to imply with engines like renpy having no issue at all running natively.

The only thing I will say about Windows 11 is that I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would, I even consider it an actual improvement over 10 (which isn't saying much, but still surprising).

An old system like Vista loses its support and its exploits get documented and available for hacker communities. New exploits get discovered but there won't be new updates against the exploits. The old system becomes 100% vulnerable if you ever use it to browse the internet.
