I don't care if someone wants to play ultra easy mode but they're wrong in this case. Playing a game at the hardest difficulty offers a different experience you miss out on entirely when you choose baby mode.

There's nothing wrong with playing on easy mode if you enjoy it more that way.
What's wrong is thinking or saying that you had a similar experience to other players, or getting upset when you're locked out of content for not being good enough - the latter is just a skill issue.
Also, getting pissy when hard mode players are proud of their achievement is just pathetic, especially since one of the reasons hard modes exists is for bragging rights.

I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. The only difficulty options I accept are a challenge mode to increase the difficulty, like Cursed Mode from Look Outside, or Inferno/Village of Shadows/etc.. Otherwise the game's difficulty should just be the difficulty to make a curated experience. I dislike this mindset because it basically disregards the difficulty of any game as part of the experience. The best part about any game is how the narrative can be tied to the gameplay experience, setitng the tone or selling the setting as authentically dangerous. it's one thing if you legitimately handicapped, but I find the people who are vocal about this thing are just extremely susceptible to FOMO but also just cannot play games if their lives depended on it. They compromise the intent of the gameplay in how it interacts with the narrative in an attempt to join the conversation on the game, then get mad when people point out they compromised the gameplay experience.

I'm not autistic so i play on the settings that I find fun. If one of you came up to me and said "I beat the hardest game of all time on the hardest difficulty setting" I eouldn't be impressed. I'd ask you if you had fun.

I agree for the most part, singular difficulty modes for a more tightly balanced experience is generally better but I do think there's a place for modular difficulty in certain titles. I love DMC/Bayonetta/W101, and think the difficulty options there are very well made in that each tier of difficulty is built upon the last, encouraging replaying the game in order of difficulty to cultivate skill in gameplay alongside a difficulty curve. these games having an easy mode I think is perfectly acceptable for those who lack in the mechanical ability to hang in normal, giving people a chance to cultivate that skill from a lower position in the curve so that they can then learn and improve to move onto normal and then the harder modes.

This issue with difficulty came about because of 6th gen - when companies like Ubisoft, EA, Nintendo, etc. made it very clear that casuals were the new lucrative imaginary market they all wanted to tap. Entire genres died and were dumbed down to retard tier levels because of this mindset - and these hack journalists defended it. You were called elitist and a gatekeeper for calling out these casualized dogshit games. This is before of course, they moved to minorities and women as the new scapegoat.

The reason Souls became popular was because that was the norm at that point, and Demons Souls and Dark Souls was a new IP that went 100% against that trend. Which, is why the Skyrim and Dragon age 2 vs Dark Souls dichotomy came up.

I stopped giving a shit about this argument when I saw someone having about as much trouble on Assisted as I did on Professional. Some people are just bad. If you're just breezing through the game with no challenge at all, then yes, you should probably increase the difficulty, you are just cheating yourself out of the game otherwise.
