Johan is obviously supposed to be the Devil/the Antichrist. The first shot of the anime and the manga spells it out. The story makes a lot more sense if you assume that Johan is implied to have some degree of supernatural power.

Is the manga better? I really fucking hated some of the filler episodes but I enjoyed the show overall. Also, doesn't this author have other works that people consider better?

Not really peak, because it gives you 5 stars for "solving" the case the wrong way.
Even though you, the player, knew the clues don't add up. And what a surprise, they didn't, you just got them because it serves the narrative. Sometimes you get to pick between 2 obviously wrong choices and the game mechanic dares to tell you that one choice is wrong and one is right.
I found this extremely immersion breaking. May as well play as female protagonist.

I reread 20CB a while back. I'd say it suffers from having an excess of side characters and side plots that do little to advance the plot and make it feel bloated and sluggish. The arc prior to the first timeskip is one of the best I've read in manga, but the story gradually declines in quality.

Not "detective" per se but has a detective-y vibe: the Spirit Hunter series available on Steam. I played the first two and they were quite enjoyable, easily worth $20 or so.

Each game has multiple cases in which a person comes to you and needs help with a supernatural problem, then you have to figure out what happened and usually find a way to get rid of the demon/ghost. Good puzzles, good characters, good art, solid translation, great great great music, awesome spooky stories.

Yeah, it's a fun show. Was surprisingly the first Urasawa thing I watched fully.

My favourite part of it was when her Grandpa became mad she went to a home eco university instead of a sports one to do Judo that he goes to that uni, starts a Judo club, tricks five random women to join it, teaches them *one* Judo move, enters them into a single match and they nearly beat an actual rival university because of it JUST to show that the team needs Yawara to actually bring them to the top or something like that.

The activity is fake, filled with storytime threads and stealth ecchi generals (which are just imagedump threads), same few moeshit pseudo-generals that last for weeks, stealth isekai generals which are the breeding ground of tasteless turd worlders (same shit with /u/ refugees) etc. When you think about it, shounen is really the least of its problems when there are just worse ones out there that they don't address.

I like his works and his style but I feel he meanders a bit too much sometimes. They are still great, very engaging and worth reading.
