I think we simply play the game differently, you are using meta-analysis to enjoy your game. I think using meta-analysis or meta-knowledge to justify why characters need to make contrived is stupid. Of course they wanted to make a branching choice, but you can't throw out what the characters in the narrative are doing simply because the meta demands it.
