Correct, and that's one of the reasons why it's good. There are entire sections that were written shittily on purpose and it was so effective that even the quotes on the back of the full-color edition aren't in on it. It intimidates readers for the same reasons Homestuck does, because the author demonstrates the ability to convincingly mimic the way people of differing levels of intelligence type, only House Of Leaves takes it to a crazy extreme. It's basically just 600 pages of violent, aggressive trolling.

The stealth book thread on /v/ is usually fueled by nostalgia for middle-grade fiction and has historically opened with an Artemis Fowl novel and conjecture about Eoin Colfer's hypnosis fetish. Judge Holden in the OP acts as a signal for all the users who aren't pretentious faggots to tune it out. He's for the same crowd that liked the cultural cudgelry that spawned Of The Killer from the Goblet Grotto dev.

the movie is a dumb stoner comedy that changed/removed way more than it needed to and leaned too far into the goofball antics. the horror in the book is actually well done, and i know it sounds like bullshit, but it actually manages to be both scary and funny.

It's the other way around for me. Audio books are just too fucking slow, but I love reading.

Don't think that's generational though, I know people my age that prefer audio books, too.

1999 here. I read creepypasta and kinky fanfiction every day in my teens and I read print all the way up until 2013 or so. I used to listen to a lot of narrations and audiobooks, but after a certain point I decided it just made me feel too lazy and inauthentic, so I just started actually reading again. I've read four books so far this year.
