the game's mostly alright, a bit light on dungeon layouts and enemy variety (it does the chronicle thing of having almost every enemy have one for each element) but i'd say for the most part it's fine. [spoiiler] i really wish you got more party members, it feels like roy and suketoudara might become part of your crew but they never do, but i haven't gone through the mage doors in the first dungeon to see if anything happens there after you beat the game.[/spoiler]

to be fair, if you're talking about the ENG account, i think that one also stopped posting after tetris 2 until puzzle pop aside from very sporadic meme posts. the japanese one still posts from time to time for their stuff like the collabs or esports or the twitter for the baby show they started on a couple months agp.
obviously it would probably be a bit hard for even an official english account to say anything aside from shitposting when nothing's really going on in the english scene.

That's what gets me the most, Pop was clearly intended to be the game to really put Puyo on the map, to do everything in its power to please old fans and bring in new, because it was a the "bridge" for the western fanbase brought in by Tetris...and they fucked it all up by simply making it an Apple Arcade exclusive, all that hard work, thrown out the window, and even if it ever gets ported to anything else, will forever be stained as an "Apple" game that people don't give a shit about

Regardless, they should at least post SOMETHING, the updates for Puyo Tetris 2 aren't even retweeted from the offical Sega page. And whoopee fucking do, the JP account is active once in awhile because its popular JP esports and the gatcha needs shilling every now and again, that fills me with so much confidence.

The western twitter is the camary in coalmine and tells me Sega has no plans for the franchise, and will mostly be kept alive barely through collabs and merch, like so many of their other franchises

I'd love to be proven, I really would. But I do not trust Sega enough to keep the franchise alive in any meaningful way

Frankly, I have no fucking idea what Sega is doing most of their franchises. It seems like every release they've had this year was bungled in some way, even that new Shinobi seems like it just came and went without much fan fare despite people apparently liking it.

it really sucks, i feel like something might've happened during development that made sonic team put it on apple arcade, like it was meant for consoles but the higher-ups said for them to pivot due to money reasons. the final story being only three fights when everyone else has the standard 8 feels very off in particular (especially when from what i've heard cause i don't have an apple device, sig's ai was the exact same as usual before an update buffed him to actually be on the level of final bosses). it reeks of the last bit or so of the game having to be rushed out because of the whole update cycle and while i don't have much sources apparently it was all in the game by day 1. really sucks cause i think the final boss track (and the new/actually remixed tracks in general) are all pretty decent compared to the last few games. still hope for another yo~n remix though.

very fair, obviously the JPN account posting about esports or gacha collabs aren't a showing of the franchise being in any good spot. it really should've posted something for the franchise's birthday, very odd that it skipped that when it's posted about character's birthdays (even ones that only were in old compile material).
i'm not expecting much either, sega has shown time and time again they will fuck their franchises up due to stupid decisions even if they release something relatively decent. maybe puyo day next year will have something but i also completely expect more fucking quest shilling, at BEST maybe puzzle pop gets taken off of apple arcade as an excuse for having a 35th anniversary game, but i don't expect it.

i was kind of referring to that, just forgot to put it in the post. haven't seen much of the sonic apple arcade game but it's possible something similar happened there i know people rightfully give shit to sonic team for their sonic outings but their puyo team seems to try when they can, just seems like they get pushed around by SEGA more often.

7 basically is the catalyst for nearly every retarded thing people have complained about the series afterwards.

i don't even dislike 7 all that much, and arguably quest also damaged it (despite the fact i like seeing old characters in the new style and some of the alternate outfits are nice), it's just the ripple effect it and a couple later games like tetris 1 caused are massive enough that every game keeps that DNA even 15+ years later (and it mainly applies to games, supplementary stuff like novels and drama cd's seem to have more freedom).

honestly i've never been that good and usually just wing it after i finish the first floor and even then i'm only pretty good at stairs and maybe getting around 5-6 chains during any modes with opponents, i'm not nor will i ever be the kind of person to reach superplayer status for this game despite liking it a lot.

probably only saw the potential money doing it again would possibly make instead of the fact that even disregarding the puyo aspect, tetris was in a bit of a hiatus. can't exactly rope tetrisfags back in with both the original release and 2S when tetris games have become plentiful again.
personally i think 2 is the better overall game, if mainly due to bigger roster meaning you can fit tetris, 20th, and chronicle's cast in rip onion pixie and dongurigaeru though but at the same time it is a game that, for both puyo and tetrisfags, shouldn't exist, doubly so for 2S.
