Why do games in general, including /v/, hate video games?

>Steam inundated with thousands of racing games that are <100 reviews
>Ratio of racing games just not played is far greater than any other genre
Anonymous No.725008009 [Report] >>725008464 >>725008469
Oh shit, I meant to say "hate racing video games?"

Well, that was a dumb goof.

Am I supposed to just drop my pants and my money on every piece of shit half baked Road Rash/Wipeout/Burnout clone that gets shat out and then forgotten in a month?
>those are not all the racing games
Those are the racing game genres I care about.

Name a racing game you're actually looking forward. I refuse to believe they're all bad in your eyes.

I don't know what's coming out. All I know is that I played Redout and Road Redemption and was so disappointed I've never looked at the genre again. I don't know if a burnout clone exists.

I enjoy racing vidya, but I literally only play Mario Kart and Forza Horizon. Mario Kart is the perfect kart racer, hands down. Literally anything else is a disappointment compared to it. Forza Horizon is a gorgeous game that is extremely obtuse on what you're supposed to do, therefore you end up just driving around doing random shit. There's a fuck ton of random shit to do, including different types of races, that I end up getting my fill. I feel like I shouldn't start a different racing game because I haven't really done everything there is to do in Forza Horizon. Then the next Horizon game comes out and I'm willing to play that since the only real difference is the locale, so it doesn't exactly feel like I'm starting a new game. Now I have EVEN MORE random shit to do with a brand new place to do it in.

I desperately want a wheel. I'd definitely play other shit if I had wheel. I already have a VR headset, so I don't really know why I'm not willing to drop a load of cash on a wheel+whatever else. I get the feeling I'd find the 1 sim racer that I love and just add that to my Kart racer and Arcade racer rotation.

Because racing games are one of the easiest genre of video game to make, but difficult to make actually interesting to play. You will have noticed: Every new console generation one of the pushed launch titles is a race gaming. This has been the case for decades now, because a racing game is easy as fuck to "polish", you don't have to show difficult high poly human models, no crazy uncanny vally human animations. All you need to focus on is making the car nice and shiny, and then having the race track look as realistic as possible. It was already possible to create pretty crazy looking racing games in the PS3 era.
And the same thing is true now: Everyone makes some sort of racing game, because the base concept is very easy, but only a few get played, or are even worth playing.

Wreckreation, made by a handful of ex-Criterion devs. It's shit.

Fumes is looking decent. In early access though.

Wreckfest 2 is finally getting *some* content. Also stuck in early access.
https://youtu.be/-hWHQ2GpVjY

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is like the most content complete not dogshit racing game released in years. But it's very niche in that it's all straight line highway racing.

Screamer is the closest thing we're getting to a decent budget, nice looking combat racer.

I thought Screamer might be good but then saw that recent gameplay video where they put mandatory QTEs as a racing mechanic

I got told it's technically the easiest game to make, since a dot moving across the screen can be considered a driving gam, and 2 dots becomes a race.

>>725009161
Eh, that's simplyfing it a bit too much for my taste. I think it's more realistically the easiest for the reasons I mentioned: It's easier to make a highly detailed, highly realistic car and racing track, than it is to make a highly detailed, highly realistic human + apartment.
Anonymous No.725009532 [Report] >>725010292
>>725008749
You mean the boost mechanic? I think you're wildly conflating a time-based skill mechanic to something mandatory or you fail, which is what a QTE is.

>Hold boost
>Release it at a specific time
>Get a slightly more powerful boost

That's all it is, and it's interesting. When you're turning around corners using the drift mechanic which requires use of the right stick ala Inertial Drift, and pressure starts getting involved via online play against real people, it means you can fuck up and get a less powerful boost. The chance to get a better boost by nailing this under a tense situation makes it more satisfying. It's purely skill based, and not RNG item based like Mario Kart.

I'm not saying all racing games are the easiest genre, just that the simplest possible implementation a video game is technically a racing game.

Wreckfest 2's update schedule is fucking painful. It's a complete repeat of WF1 which took like 3 years to hit the "full version." It was so long people thought the game was abandoned.

All of the most played ones are such been-done-before shit. The last time I autistically got into one was GT 4. I wish a new racing game grabbed me by the balls but nothing ever scratches the itch anymore

I want a game that like i NFS or Grid where you start off with a simple car and can upgrade it or as the game goes on. Good drifting mechanics and decent courses bonus for open world and good graphics.

Not many games do that these days. The new Forza looks okay but i hate getting millions of dollars within a few races

Race Driver GRID 2008 is a fucking masterpiece, and it is criminal almost nobody will experience it because the only way to play it is via piracy.

Waiting for Forza Horizon 6.
I don't like kart games. The physics are wierd.
Hopping for a good NFS game.
Looking for a good futuristic game like P.O.D.

Outside of the arcade racers, you have a similar problem to flight sims. You really want to get a dedicated wheel setup which costs money and space.

I'd say arcade racing games are suffering the most more than any other sub-genre of racers. They peaked with titles like Pure, Split/Second, Flatout 2, Burnout 3 and Revenge, GRID 2008 and DiRT 2 etc. and then everybody just decided they're not worth making anymore.

It's criminal how much the scene collapsed.

Sumo Digital constantly wastes their talent on kart kid slop. These guys are literally ex-Climax/ex-Blackrock Studios devs. They made Split/Second, they made Pure, they made MotoGP during its peak when it was actually top quality. They should be out there making the next Burnout. Instead they make nothing but trash like Stampede: Racing Royale (removed because it was dead on arrival) and Team Sonic Racing (a sequel so poorly received compared to their original Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed that SEGA booted them from the franchise and took over with Cross Worlds, which actually got good reception).

Clearly it doesn't because all of their recent games have bombed. Stampede was completely F2P and didn't even last a year.
