I remember my best friend from highschool telling me we should contact videogame companies so they'd send us their games on release date so we could play them and write reviews. We spent hours deciding a name for our indie magazine... and never even tried making it true.
This was almost 20 years ago. Neither of us could ever have anticipated that smartphones would exist, let alone allow any idiot to share their opinions for the whole world to hear.
One of my younger cousins tried becoming a vidya-review youtuber a few years ago. He reviewed like 40 games, some of them in-depth and somewhat professionaly... but he eventually gave up. We all did. We all work boring jobs and play vidya solo for the most part now.
