There's always an effort to white-wash the Ottomans because you can't go five years into their history without the following:

>Which was remodeled into a mosque
>which was renamed to [Turkish name], the prior name may have been [redacted] but the records are sparse
>which resulted in widespread slavery targeted at Europeans and Christians
>which was primarily composed of european slave girls
>which were typically men, who would often die before the possibility of freedom
>considered itself a "Third Rome"
You can also, crazy enough, say the Ottomans have a hand in every native american that died between 1492-1692 and not be entirely incorrect.
