*isn't. The original developers were Core Design and they have nothing to do with the remasters. They were developed by Aspyr and supervised by Crystal Dynamics, who took over the franchise after Core Design and seem to have developed a disdain for classic TR after the PS2 era.

Sissy Dynamics are almost the 343 to Core's Bungie. They hate Core because Core made the great TR games and CD made the average ones. TR 1-3 is still the stuff of nostalgic legends while the later games failed to grow out of the shadow. and I say this as someone who liked Legend and Rise. it's just the truth.

Tomb Raider 1 was such a fucking master piece it allowed the developers to literally copy paste the same game 5 times with declining level design and every one of them sold well. they had to completely fuck it up in unfathomable ways with AoD to finally end their run. when placed in its proper historic context TR1 is one of the 10 best video games ever made. it's still decent fun today.
Crystal Dynamics meanwhile are the younger brother wearing hand-me-downs and always being compared to the Chad older brother who died young. oh, if only Chad was still alive (instead of you). that's what's on everybody's mind when Crystal Dynamics enter the room and they know.

Those games weren't even made by Crystal Dynamics.
They literally took the IP, said "man all of those games suck" and made TR irrelevant.
And any time someone dared to touch the IP, CD would just sabotage that project.
