Basically around the time of the PS3's launch Sony showed a bunch of pre-rendered footage and tried to pass it off as if it was real time, the most egregious example of which was the Killzone 2 cinematic trailer. Then the PS3 actually came out and the games obviously didn't look anywhere near as good as the bullshit trailers they showed, in fact in the early days the PS3 couldn't even produce visuals on par with the Xbox 360 because developers didn't know how to code for multithreaded CPUs yet. The PS3's reputation was completely in the shitter for the first couple years, then Killzone 2 came out and by some miracle it actually managed to look almost as good as the pre-rendered trailer they showed before release(even better in some aspects), so it did a lot to rehabilitate the brand reputation
As for the game itself, it's pretty straightforward single player FPS stuff. The atmosphere and production value still hold up to this day, and the whole game has a very uniquely weighty feel to it, the way enemies react to getting shot and the destructibility of the environment are still ahead of a lot of modern shooters. Some people hate it for the way it feels to control though, the animations are slow and the way your character moves has some built in delay to achieve the feel I just described. It feels more like a sequel to the PS2/Xbox game Black than anything else, but since you're a zoomer I guess you didn't play that either.

It's been years since I payed them but if I remember correctly Killzone 2 and 3 had much less aggressive autoaim than your average console FPS like Halo or Call of Duty
