Armor knights suffer from follow up attacks as a mechanic. Rather than being a bonus, they are the expectation. The lack of follow up attacks is instead a curse that halves your damage, and is isolated near-entirely to armor knights, axe fighters, and low level mages. And in addition to generally being able to grow into doubling speed with enough levels, mages account for their early damage by attacking through the lower RES stat, which often means their single attack in early game still hits for significant damage, as well as having natual 1-2 range providing tactical utility in phases of the game where your choices are still limited.
But axe fighters and arnor knights have nothing to offset this lack of speed, which makes them almost entirely offensively useless, on top of the variety of other problems associated with both classes.
