Everything is competitive here. Go take a look at what entry level jobs you intend to aim for, and what you need to get them. That includes having the right contacts, the right domain experience. Don't think of it as a self contained "extra curricular".

Lets you see more of the Suck, and how different fields REALLY work, and get some cash and experience, and vital contacts It would really be terrible if you decided you hate your field or there's no jobs that work for you, or you should have aimed for gov or in house from the very start.

Some are, or at least were TRUE BELIEVERS who think that black people in america are constantly treated poorly and that they have a chance to fix things themselves. Some get special breaks on their loans if not COMPLETE writeoffs. Some have their hours count as charity work that they can take huge tax deductions on. Some just couldn't get a better job.
