This genre is played mostly by tryhards who want to show off because they have nothing else in life. When I get home after work to play some games, I just want to chill and have fun without thinking about it too hard. Being good at these games is like the least valuable skill ever and yet its fans are really obnoxious with it. I bought into this meme genre for a long time but now I'd rather play something turn based over Bayonetta.

I suck at video games, I think these games are fun because I don't have the attention span to play RPGs or strategy games.

Honestly the only good games in this genre are NGB and NG2 because your character and the enemies have weight to them. Every other game feels too floaty and light. Its a power fantasy genre for nerds like Isekai where you are super overpowered juggling 5 enemies in the air but you as a player are hardly doing anything for it.

MGR doesn't belong there.

These games are the game-iest games because they're flashy, fun, intense, gameplay-focused instead of story-focused, have good music, lots of fanservice and sex appeal. If you don't like them, you don't like the gaming medium. Movie games like TLOU may be more your speed

You only need to learn once though. Once you have a basic grasp of the mechanics you can pick up and play whenever you want. And they usually aren't too terribly difficult

Getting a high score in a game means you are not only playing the game, but getting really good at doing so (or at least getting really good at doing what the developers reward with score). It's only as bad as speedrunning if there are oversights or exploits in the scoring system that encourage degenerate playstyles

Your average fighting game enjoyer, like myself, is able to jump into any fighting game and still have fun with very surface level knowledge. I'm diamond in sf6, blue rank in t8, and celestial (season 1 lol) in strive. That doesn't mean I'm great but I at least understand enough about the games to know what's happening most of the time, and then I can jump into other older or niche games, I'll get my ass kicked but nothing is ever going to feel completely alien to me like my initial experience with fightan. Multiplayer games are something else entirely. You speak as if you've only played multiplayer fotm slop your whole life. These kind of games are about fluid and fun combat and the modern equivalent of getting the high score. There's a certain type of zen to be achieved when a video game can just be a game and not a platform for sucking money out of you.

Only DMC and Bayonetta are really super duper combo sweat fests with SSS combo juggling videos upholding their reputation. Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 (haven’t played 3 or 4) require you to do a lot to even win, but 99% of enemies die super quickly even on MN and the marketing for the original Xbox game was more about just getting through it, using whatever you can INCLUDING consumables. Metal Gear Rising has a lot of simple mechanic tests, but enemies are pretty easy to kill as well and it’s mostly a massacre sim until the bosses which is where the game really shines. The bosses have a lot of gimmicks, I’d say of all four games here, Rising has the biggest focus on its boss fights and making those look cool is what’s really rewarding.

Most of these games are extremely easy and only get 'hard' if you're trying to no-hit them on the highest difficulty.
