Never. They are fundamentally different with fundamentally different philosophies for what RPGs are. The difference between From and Bethesda now is exactly the same as From and Bethesda in the 90s.

Seriously, go back and play Daggerfall and King's Field and you will see the same trends that lead both companies to their final destination.

Didn't Fromsoftware came into the scene the same time as Bethesda and was considered an inferior Bethesda by journalists in the 2000s? If so it already happened back then.

A game company needs to have lile 3 or 4 universally recoginzed bad games in a row for them to have "fallen". Fromsoft only has Nightreign so far, and the first is generally forgiven with built up good will.
Anonymous No.725040528 [Report]
They'd have to fuck up pretty bad to become the new Bethesda. Probably won't be as soon as you hope, OP.

Those sentiments have never changed, journalists had to bend the knee to From and they still seethe about it.

Bethesda is player focused, while From is enemy focused. The former is pro journalist, the latter is pro gamer.
Anonymous No.725040834 [Report] >>725040963
>>725037824
Not really? Bethesda has far higher maintenance costs than FromSoft. From Soft's bottom line is far nicer. Bandai forced them to make 3 Dark Souls for a reason. Bloodborne and Sekiro also sold exceedingly well and Elden Ring is a cultural phenomenon.

Fallout 4 and Skyrim are outliers, most of Bethesda's games sell mid to good.

Oblivion and Morrowind sold pretty well if you adjust player inflation.

Nightreign is good though, you not liking it doesn't make it bad universally. It's actually quite successful.

None of FromSoft's games failed. DS2 is the dark horse and its still a cut above most games. Sekiro and Bloodborne redefined genres.

Armored Core 6 was kinda meh but it's also the only decent mech game in recent memory (X Machina isn't bad but it plays and feels low budget).

There's no actual argument here. FromSoft's actual bad games are in it's past, Kings Field was mid at best. It's actually a formerly mid studio becoming excellent, pretty rare to see.

When Duskbloods releases.
You'll have hordes of people coming out, especially here, saying that FromSoft was never good and that Elden Souls was always overrated slop.

Morrowind no. Oblivion maybe but not nearly to the same extent as some other cultural heavy hitters. It's definitely a standout game that influenced the genre, was my first Bethgame so I love it most, but it wasn't a household name.
The Witcher 3 is a game you could actually compare against Skyrim in that regard.

AC6 was a very good small game for enthusiasts and it was still financially successful.
From could shit out a souls game every year and rake in millions, they still don't and redefine even der own formula every time (Bloodborne and sekiro). When there is one soulful developer left, it's From.

You might have a point if most players didn't enjoy it AND it wouldn't be an explicit, non-canon spinoff game.
Even if it was just half as bad as /v/ would love it to be, it will always be filed under "experiment that another director got to make some mistakes with" and not a botched mainline entry.

Yes, tends to happen when you've got an overwhelmingly larger audience than in the ps1/ps2/ps3 era. Not that I haven any complaints here or there.

The problem with Bethesda is that they don't understand how to design games. None of their games are good games if you go by mechanics and gameplay and the main quest is always a low point, they just have interesting worlds, where you just go and walk around to find fun shit. The reason why Starfield and Fallout 76 failed is because you can't pick a direction and walk there to find something interesting, you just find yourself bored.
Fromsoft makes games that are fun to play for the gameplay, which is good enough for a solid game.
