Old games were not good.

In 90% of cases yea. Same as modern games. 90% of releases are shit. Nothing has changed. Oldgood newbad niggers are obnoxious as hell.

They were amazing.

New games aren't either. What a dismal industry.

4 legendary, some of them medium-changing, games came out in 2005 alone. How many legendary games came out in 2025, or 2024, or 2023?

Gaming was never good. You were just a massive loser the second you stepped outside.

True. They were the best.

I'm neither going to agree nor disagree with Silksong being labelled as "legendary". At best, even if it is legendary, that's only 1 legendary game this year. Pretty big downgrade from when we were getting 4+ legendary games a year.

Oh shut the fuck up, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Resident Evil 4, DMC3, Shadow of the Colossus, and God of War 1, what else?

New games are obsessed with having muh "good design" that they all start to feel the same. Old games were janky as fuck but at least developers were trying shit. At least older games weren't boring like they are today

It depends. I'd say the more an old game is renown for its story, the more it's not going to hold up on replay. I tried Beyond Good and Evil a couple years ago and it's definitely a chore to get through. But gameplay is pretty timeless. Age of Empires, Super Metroid, Double Dash, and even the original Half Life are still fun games.

The problem is that story and technical showmanship has outsized relevance when it comes to reception in the moment.

If the OP's image was too shit to stay on /v/, the thread itself is too shit for /v/. Janitors are fucking retarded.

Old games are better by virtue of them not holding your hand constantly. Newer games expect nothing of the players, and as a result I feel no mental stimulation when I play them

Actually, they are a lot of fun when you have the patience to acclimate to them.
