I managed to complete SMTV, I couldn't bother getting past the 1st palace in P5. SMT had its issues, but it managed not to be boring

I've played both (PC versions) and liked both. But I did not do vengeance route yet so I only did the original one. I will say I have no desire to replay persona 5 any time soon but will replay smt v to do the new content. Persona has too much bloat which made getting to the good parts a drag. The amount of times I was already done and only had social link shit and had them repeating the same shit to me every few days about calling card, etc was annoying.

Best fucking soundtrack in any JRPG ever. SMT 4 also had a ridiculously good soundtrack.

I wonder why the persona and metaphor games have such generic soundtracks when the shin megami tensei series has such good soundtracks the OST outsells the game itself.

Can't they let the composer just do his thing on the bigger budget games for some reason?

People like a greater focus on characters and stories in their rpgs, and the combat is easier than smt but better than other turn based rpgs. The mix of life sim elements is also unique, people like the mixing of that with rpg aspects. Most people play games for escapism and the fantasy of being a popular anime hero with a harem who saves the day is very popular and Persona does a good job at that.

Kind of a tangent but New Moon made me really love Imagine. I hated what I remembered of it back in the Aeria days but it's actually pretty good when it's not being run like a casino.

They had the right ideas, but had no idea how to finish the story. The gameplay puts all other SMTs to shame.

Being abstract is why it's so beloved. It's one of the most unique JRPGs ever made and nothing hits like it. SMTV tried to be a second Nocturne and failed because the people making it weren't as creative, inspired, or as talented as the original base Nocturne dev team.

I understand that's it's main attractive, but for me it was too much. SMTV is not as "interesting" in its concepts, but it manages to be more entertaining, it has a better balance
