Now that the dust has settled, which game is better?

Both games severely hurt themselves from being way too easy.

Which 3d Mario games have the right amount of challenge?

So does Odyssey.

They both suffer from the same problem of
>dude here's a bunch of meaningless tasks we'll reward you with a mcguffin for with no balance, creating situations where just walking around will net you a mcguffin, but then conquering a whole challenge will again, just net you one mcguffin
But Bananza 'fixed' this with skill points, unlike Odyssey's Moons which were pointless Bananas were worth picking up and even seeking out as they unlocked skills.

Bananza sorta ruined its 'legacy' with the DLC though. DK Isle was 100% ready in time for launch. They should have put that in the base game with some fossils and left Emerald Rush itself as the DLC if they wanted to sell something.

For that reason I'd have to give it to Mario. It's a content-complete game with no DLC and got excellent post-launch support for free.

Both are fun, but Odyssey is just pure magic. Bananza has a really fun gameplay hook and felt quite fresh. Just didn't find it as consistently fun overall, and despite cool theming for some of them the levels didn't do it as much for me. It wasn't even a matter of how much of the levels was destructible. Just didn't find them as strong overall, and I think Bananza had enough weak layers to not make up for the weak kingdoms from back in Odyssey.

The Bananza finale was incredible and did beat out Odyssey's own fun finale. Still doesn't hold bearing over the game as a whole. Did feel Bananza had more fun character portrayals overall too, though in a platformer like this it's not as important as the gameplay. Then there's the music, which I wish was better in Bananza. There's a few wonderful tracks, but they feel scattered overall.

If they were going to sell the DLC, they could have at least gone for half the price. Still wouldn't be a good look, but $10 might be an easier hurdle to swallow. While prices are going up in general, $20 has often been typical pricing when you're getting into season passes or decent expansions. One new location that doesn't function like a normal level and an extra mode are definitely not what I'd expect at that price point.

It should have been free, but Nintendo didn't even handle making it paid well. They flew too close to the sun.

Bananza. Odyssey had the better postgame though.

Bananza just feels better. The amount of mobility Odyssey Mario has feels like you’re breaking the levels. Whereas the point of Bananza is breaking the level literally which feels great.

Honestly I vastly preferred Bananza over Odyssey. Odyssey was good, but I really didn't feel compelled to collect all the moons like I did with the bananas in Bananza.

Bananza is the best overall package EPD has put out since 3D World so that one. Soundtrack is underwhelming by both 3D Mario and DK standards though, little too all over the place.

Really wondering what they do with 3D Mario now since Donkey Kong is the clear evolution of whatever they were trying to do with Odyssey.

Bananza. The challenge rooms were the most notable improvement. I didn’t mind getting all the gorillion collectibles this time either.

I enjoyed Odyssey more. The destructible environment stuff in DK kind of loses its charm over the course of the game and the transformations are too strong and break the platforming.

Only thing that annoyed me in Bananza was that Pauline's song towards the end of the game was only in English even though I played with Jap audio. Felt a little jarring.
