Anonymous No.725061048 [Report]
no

not really
it plays itself more as an arcade city builder than a dictator sim

>arcade city builder
so like a simcity but more casual?

Yes, buy it with the humble bundle deal

Yes but you going to have road traffic problem in the late game.

It's fun, I like the level of difficulty, it starts easy but piles on my systems to juggle as you progress through the ages, both the city management and political management are simple but come together to make something middling in difficulty which is comfy especially with that soundtrack which is a pleasure to listen to.

Tropico 4 was the last good one

Yes you can play free mode or whatever it called.
I never played free mode, I played only the scenarios.

Which Tropico is the best for the "Dictator" sim?
Anonymous No.725064640 [Report] >>725064858
>>725060926 (OP)
I have bought and played all of them and even I don't really see much reason to play anything but 4 as a newbie unless you want some really gimmicky stuff they put in later. But I do so
Anonymous No.725064858 [Report]
>>725064640
4 does feel like that sweet spot where you can play the game and not deal with gimmicks or bullshit.

It can be fun IF you use a mod to increase teamster size

The logsitics really screw everything up.

also dealing with Shanties.

NIGGER I BUILT YOU CHEAP HOUSING THAT'S NOT A TENAMENT; FUCKING GET OUT OF THE SHACK, REEEEE
Anonymous No.725065219 [Report] >>725065298
>>725065103
Ah, see, the issue with that is probably distance. If the citizens are too far from their workplaces they'll build shanties instead of just living in the houses.

That's fucking pants on head stupid. How do you even fix that like if I need mining. Do I have to actually set up like a Mining Village?
Anonymous No.725065368 [Report] >>725065531
>>725065298

adding on, I never thought about it like that. I always saw Tropic as "build one big nation/city" not "build multiple communities to support logistics".
Anonymous No.725065445 [Report] >>725065571
>>725065298
Yes? That's the point.
Anonymous No.725065471 [Report]
>>725065298
Either that, or you need to give them some manner of transportation to cut down on the time, I think. This is why I pretty much always use the Free Wheels edict. It costs a lot and it clogs up your roads but good luck getting your people to their stupid workplaces otherwise.

As I said, logistics are the main problem of Tropico 6.

You're building an island and islands have multiple communities. In later games you have entire separate islands that you link

I wish the tutorial made that clear ages ago.
>>725065531
I'm aware of 6, but yeah I never really *thought* about that prospect. I'll bear it in mind next time I wanna replay 4.
Anonymous No.725065986 [Report]
>>725065298
it's only really an issue until cars and roads, think of it in realistic terms, when all people can do is walk, they can't travel as far, once you get into the more modern eras you can space stuff out more, but then you do have to worry about transportation like do they have access to cars? do they have buses? so on
they have to physically travels to their desires, they will go to work, go get food, go to entertainment and go home, with work being a priority
Anonymous No.725066006 [Report] >>725066576
ever since 5 there’s way too much busy work with trade agreements and buildings like the pirate cove/smugglers dock
Anonymous No.725066056 [Report] >>725066142
>>725061312
Yes. Which if you've played a lot of sim city you'll be able to break the game pretty fast.
I would always hit a point where I was growing the island so fast immigration couldn't keep up and I broke the labor market to the point that you have to just money hat everyone at the highest salaries for every job for a decade until everything stabilizes and you've got a first world GDP with a tropical paradise with no crime or homelessness, and win elections with 99% of the vote gained fairly, and all the factions happy except the nationalist occasionally whining about immigrants.

Disregard, I'm retarded. I was thinking of Tropico 4.
Anonymous No.725066447 [Report]

I always have problems with revolutionaries.
Inevitably what happens is I have enough public support to win elections handily without rigging, yet there's always some loose consortium of guerrillas who declare war on my leadership and start torching random shit. And when I banish them (can't afford prisons) it causes more of them to revolt, leading to a vicious cycle that ultimately results in my deposition.

I just take the longest trades and you can set the coves and so on to do repeat actions infinitely
Anonymous No.725066739 [Report]
OP here
I have tropico 4 but I never really played it a lot.
I like scenarios but I like free mode like some anon said 6 has it.
Is there any point in 6 if I already have 4? I don't mind getting 6 since it's just 12€ in humble bundle
Anonymous No.725066986 [Report]
>>725065298
The people don't need much, sometimes you just need to put an apartment building.
And since if you're mining you already need to have a nearby teamster and car depot nearby anyways, so you can actually get those minerals to where they're being refined or shipped out anyway.
And since the resource hotspots are usually spread out you might as well take advantage of a long road to a gold mine by putting some farms and ranches on the way, an apartment building or two, and maybe someplace to eat. If they want fun they can fuck off to the city.
Also every single city builder type game's end-boss is the retarded pathfinding.

Okay i guess, creampie them instead paying for dlc, also the vaccine dlc will rekt your game if you start from colonial so proceed with caution

Its okay
doesnt have the sovl like 3 and 4 and way way too much dlcs
Anonymous No.725067898 [Report]
6 is very buggy. Transportation tends to break in completely hopeless and inconsistent ways. Builders might arrive to construction sites and finish their job just fine, but workers and/or teamsters won't be able to reach buildings. Goods are transported in the most retarded ways, a teamster's office might get stuck sending multiple trucks to repeatedly pick up small batches of one product while ignoring all other nearby buildings. It happens randomly, often pretty far into a mission. A functional town suddenly starts drowning in debt and it's too late to unfuck it.

The new games have lost the charm of the first few. You wind up with a generic looking city pretty quickly instead of a tiny tinpot dictatorship

not as good as 5 in the execution but it adds a bunch of new/returning mechanics over 5.
5 with modded maps is still the best of the modern Tropico games, 3 if you prefer the older ones.
