New World lacked what i call scumbag mechanics to inflate player numbers. It had pretty much 0 FoMO, so completitionist autists didnt really need to keep playing past the first month after every expansion. It had no gacha or lootboxes, so it never caught the attention of gambling addicts. Gearing was relatively easy, so nolifers couldnt feel superior and left the game soon after release. It had no p2w or sub so no sunk cost fallacy either. New World is unironically the most fair and time respecting MMO out right now and thats what killed it.

the IG and rapier example is so strange to me because IG has never had any burst, its been a pure defensive weapon the entire existence of the game and there is no catching or bursting people, its a weapon exclusively used as utility to keep people off you while your main weapon puts in the damage and has a requirement of being ranged. IG rapier isn't a build because while yes you can run offensive rapier builds, many builds use rapier for its defensive build to keep people off you and get away, they serve the same purpose. an IG rapier build would just be running away and not killing anyone or doing anything?

idk if you just didn't play the game much or just at a very low level but most builds are exactly what you are describing.
SNS/GA is exactly that, SNS is your approach and combo weapon to setup people and if they try to get away you swap to GA for the increased passive speed and lots of tools of rooting and pulling people so you can just run down people who try to run. swapping between both when you are up close and brawling for different situations and weapon MU. both have a clear purpose.

That's from the first couple of weeks, before the invincibility shit and most of the other various bugs and exploits were discovered. The automatic ban system and that incident in particular was one of the first red flags and the tip of the iceberg. They fired this guy because he carelessly told the truth and then set all their jeetshills into maximum damage control to claim all bans are checked by a human (Even the ones that aren't automatic won't be checked by humans because the employees aren't people)

Several of the people in my friend group, myself included, ended up getting hit with at least one automated 24hr because we pvp'd a lot. We weren't fags who turned that shit off, so we were constantly fighting every enemy we saw, which resulted in seething syndiecucks and salty maurauder streamercattle telling their discord circlejerks to report us.
