Recording all your gameplay for no particular reason is based. Just make sure to keep it organized with some sort of structure. Don't feel bad if it never gets seen by other people. Honestly everyone should be recording their gameplay, as the software has gotten so efficient it rarely impacts performance.

I've done this. I've taken a lot of time to engineer THE BEST video encoding settings for recording small videos of gameplay.

Last year, I decided the best strategy was to record in near-lossess quality and then reencode to x265. It took me a year to actually get around to choosing the best x265 settings, and in the meantime, I accumulated 20TB of near-lossless footage. Finally, I have found my settings and I am in the process of reencoding. However, I didn't think about how slow x265 is. 800 hours of footage will take about 800 hours to reencode. That's an entire month of 24/7 encoding. I'm getting there. I'm about 30% of the way through.

Oh yes, the reason why I decided to first start recording gameplay was to review my attempts at boss fights.
Then, it was to document my first experiences with games.
Now, it's because I'm an obsessive data hoarder.

This is actually wrong. The ONLY reason I have ever watched gameplay is to figure shit out, whether it be routing or some gameplan in a fighting game match up or whatever. You are absolutely nuts if you watch a youtube video to be "entertained" by some gay faggot replacement dad.
