Depends.
It's open world sandbox with some static assets and quest lines mixed with roguelike and shitload of procedural generation.
If you're willing to put in some time to learn what the game has to offer you're going to have a good time.
If you're expecting quest markers and hand holding, seek elsewhere.
There's a bare bones tutorial, don't skip it but you should also read a starter guide or two from long time players.
It will make the learning part less painful.
Besides the 'Classic' perma-death mode there's 'Role-playing' mode that saves at cities/villages and there are also mods allowing to save at camps (you can make them anywhere as long as enemies aren't in immediate vicinity)
Not going to spoil the setting or story but the lore is pretty great.
Though after a win or two you learn basically the whole story of the world because overwhelming majority of story is static, not generated.
There are some negatives too but besides the steeper learning curve you won't encounter them till you master the basics.
Once you get to higher levels, balance kind of goes out of the window and you can break the game in many, many ways.
This might be fun in it's own but also takes most of the challenge out of the game so it's up to you to set up your own boundaries.
Also the generated quests can get old pretty fast.
Anyway if you decide to go for it, don't rush.
It's turn based game so if you get into trouble stop pushing buttons like squirrel on speed and think for a minute.
Getting overconfident and rushing is cause of like 90%+ of deaths.
If you're not sure, run away, that's what Sprint skill is for, a basic skill every character has.
Have fun.
