But Ezio got his revenge against both Rodrigo and Cesare. The difference was that he was basically killing a weak man in Rodrigo so it didn't feel as earned for him. The only AC game I can think of where it pushes "Revenge bad" is Unity and it's not even really that because Arno just makes a bunch of dumb choices due to his magical ability to experience memories by stabbing people. I mean hell, Chronicles China and Shadows both heavily encourage revenge. Naoe in particular is constantly unhinged when she meets any Shinbakufu member and Yasuke just stands there as she murders them once they all stop chatting cordially.

because they're emotional, their understanding of the world is built on rage and fear. To them Justice and Catharsis are the same thing, so when you have a character seeking Catharsis under the guise of Justice (which is nearly every revenge plot ever written) and present it as a bad thing, you're challenging their manchild fantasies of beating up their bullies. You say "let go of your grudges and move on so you can heal" but they hear "lay down and take more abuse until it kills you"

Rodrigo Borgia died in 1503, 4 years after this fight.

Could just be the Assassins rewriting history considering Luis outright says it's an open secret some "secret organization" killed them all.

What always gets me is how they portray revenge. There's been plenty of times in history where one "side" or individual fucked around and found out and never did it again.

Because most of the time, the way the story was told was pretty morally awkward.
>Kill thousands of henchmen just to get to the main bad guy who wronged the protagonist
>All that's left is the coup de grace on the bad guy
>Sudden epiphany that it won't bring back protag's loved ones or something

>leave mountains of corpses behind of far less evil or powerful people
>Ezio monologues about not being able to let go after all these years only to then let go 20 minutes later
>literally at war with the guy with no way of peacefully settling their differences
>we were just told how Borgia continues being an evil prick just prior to this level
>justification is just a no shit Sherlock level epiphany
it just fell flat

this all rings hollow when the guy is still the biggest threat to you and those you care about

>show forgiveness and mercy for the remorsefull, those who see their wrongdoing and try to seek redeption
This is fine
>show forgiveness and mercy to the wicked and unapologetic, who would continue their evil deeds without blinking the next moment, still seeking to harm and kill you
This is retarded and suicidal empathy

>guy you spared is in position of political power
>he is also leader of your arch enemy faction
>continues to spread the influence of your arch enemy faction
>next game starts with his son raiding your family fortress and killing your family members
>have to spend the entire next game purging rome from templar influence
>because you spared templar leader guy in 2
That really worked out well for Ezio. Sorry uncle Mario.
