Is this shit any good even if you don't know anything about warhammer? I've played owlcat's pathfinder games, thought they were alright.

ehh, the game itself isn't that good desu, at least when I played it, like any other owlcat game it seems to have been finished post-release so dunno about the new stuff. But from my experience, I'd rank it below Kingmaker and WotR. I pretty much breezed through it with a psyker build

overall I wouldn't try it without knowing anything about warhammer

this video sums up the lore pretty well

I don't really like the battle mechanics as I find there's too much easy combat at the same time it's way overcomplicated, although there are a few fun boss fights. But everything else is really cool, I didn't know anything about 40k going in but I grew to really enjoy the setting.

I did look up a bunch of setting details on the wiki when I started playing, but it didn't take long to get all the most fundamental aspects of the setting memorised, and once you know them you can roleplay competently without having to know all the 20+ years of lore.

If you are interested in a game don't fucking ask /v/ if it's good lmao, these faggots don't play games and just exist to bitch and moan like their single mothers.

Im really enjoying it. Playing it exclusively on handheld so its a perfect couch, bed and travel game. I went iconoclast route and still have all party members that I jump around from. Very text heavy, the combat can be made very easy depending on your build. The one thing I dislike is how often random encounters happen when moving around the Expanse, which breaks the flow of following up on quests or trying to reach one area or another.

it's kinda meh to be honest. As a non-40k fan I didn't like the setting or the characters or the story or the combat system. Actually I didn't like anything now that I think about it. It's just meh
And I liked the pathfinders, I even liked Wasteland 3 more than this

Its a Warhammer novel with a 6/10 turn based tactics game attached to it.

If you dont like either this game isnt going to change your mind.

There are games that are technically not that great but hit the spot for you and Rogue trader happens to be that type of a game for me.
Go in without looking up too much stuff. Otherwise you will just pick the most OP build and the game wont be fun for you.

As a 40k fan I enjoyed my first run immensely. Currently doing a second run with the dlc and understanding the mechanics makes you very overpowered very quickly which makes most of the game quite boring, however that's probably true for any cRPG

I made MC a pyromancer/bladedancer and he and kibbles duo carried the game until I found heavy bolter-kun, from then on Argenta finished every fight before the other characters can even get into position.
>mfw gave pasqal a rocksaw for the luls but he couldn't use it yet because he's so slow that argenta has killed everyone before he gets a chance to act

You´re a Conquistador lord going to colonize shit but in space but also demons and orks are a thing and you´re working for catholic space nazis.

blade dancer is the most fun class
still the combat system is really rough around the edges and feels very bloated yet too simple and easy to exploit
also the lack of proper icons and portraits will never not bother me

you really dont need deep 40k lore, its a generic fantasy setting but in space

>there are demons, like in fantasy
>there are knights and knighty orders, but we call them space marines
>there is the catholic church, but we call them ecclesiarchy
>there are orks, but in space
>there are high elves, but in space
>there are dark elves, but in space
>there are mummies, but as terminator robots instead of zombies and skeletons
>there are dwarves in space
>there are ogres and hobbits in space, but they are now mutant humans
>there is magic and mages, but we call if Psyker and Psionics (its still the same thing)

Yeah, you get the setting explained to you as you go, you don't need to know anything.

I think context is needed in order to understand why total brutality is justified and necessary to safeguard mankind

Yes it's alright and doesn't demand any previous knowledge, even if it throws a lot of inane lore at you.
