In games made for adults, moderation often becomes a problem because it punishes the wrong group. Our experiences shouldn’t be restricted just because some parents can’t keep their children out of adult spaces. It’s the parents’ responsibility to make sure their kids aren’t exposed to mature games or chats with adult language; not ours, and certainly not something that should justify constant censorship from multimillion-dollar companies trying to cover for bad parenting.

Old games had a perfect balance where server admins could permaban people from their servers but you could just go somewhere else or even start your own server where any trash talk is allowed. But game companies are such control freaks that we'll never have that again.

Games just need a robust reporting system and actual record of infractions rather than the automated bot bullshit they presently work with. If some person is literally spamming NIGGERNIGGERNIGGER in text chat, there should be a log they can use to verify he, in fact, was spamming in text chat. If some person is being reported for doing the same thing by 20 people despite literally zero record of them having done anything of the sort (because they didn't), they shouldn't be at higher risk of being auto-banned because the retarded chimps who run the company can't be bothered to moderate what's going on. I would be more tolerant of moderation if it was actually handled in a human fashion by actual humans, but since it's almost entirely run by automative processes and adhere to the laziest, most low-effort responses and resolutions physically possible, I'd rather not have it in the first place.

That's a good argument but it makes one very big assumption. Games are predatorily marketed to kids, the gubmint knows it, boomers overwhelmingly see games as a kid thing as well. So they have every reason to heavily moderate everything online and will have the backing, probably the expectation from any establishment to also do so to protect the children.
