This just isn't true, everything inside your PC can be sold for money towards the upgrade. You don't need to buy the games again, you simply swap parts out as you feel the need to.
It just takes more thought.

>>725112656 (OP)
PC gaming has the biggest cost barrier for hardware but it's by far the cheapest option long term. High startup cost. Though even if you quit gaming, you can easily get 80% of the cost back from selling parts.

>the draw back that you can't upgrade it
With the draw back that you can't upgrade specifics, that it loses resale value when the newer version is released, that you have to buy games from a monopoly market that doesn't have sales, that uses controllers that are built to break and expensive to replace and that you have to pay to play online.
If you gamed from PS3, PS4 and now PS5 you'd have spent more money on hardware and games than you'd have spent on PC gaming.

It'll depend on your distro, but something conventional like Ubuntu comes with most drivers as part of the kernel.
The only choice that may matter is your brand of GPU; AMD has the best 'it jsut works' score, but NVIDIA will still be better for things like ray-tracing or anything that uses video encoding (editing, recording, etc.)

as for monitor, kb/mouse
if you want sure you can buy everything new all at once if you dont have the means to do so, you can get 2nd hand monitor super cheap and same goes for kb/mouse and if you dont wanna go 2nd hand route you can get a cheap IPS monitor for $80-100 and kb/mouse combo package for $10-30
i genuinely had more fun upgrading my components over the years than just buying it all in one go, i did both, but upgrading feels like playing an RPG with nice progression and you can notice every improvement and appreciate it a lot more than when you buy a full package

I was super fucking hyped at the time but I fell off pretty quick. Gaming on a computer just isn't fun for me. I tried really really hard and I could appreciate things like the frame rate and increased details it just wasn't fun at all. I'd go for hours on the Playstation and then a few minutes on the PC before I felt like I was done.
