Neptunia is such a novel and distinctly otaku concept. I love it. Especially Blanc.

That said, I'm starting to think we may not get that new Neptunia mainline game. Only two months left in the year and they still haven't announced it. Half of their recent announcements have been delays and other technical issues like accidentally leaking the debug tools for DERQ Code Z and all of their recent games have sold extremely poorly. I think Compile Heart may be falling apart behind the scenes and they may end up going under before they ever produce that new mainline.

It's kinda interesting to see how they've improved the games if you play the original versions, but since all the Re;Births are glorified asset flips of Neptunia Victory, the series would be an absolute slog until you VII. I think if I were recommending a play order to people, I'd just tell them to play Re;Birth 2 and VII.

Clothing damage in Neptunia U only goes down to ripped clothes and underwear. It doesn't go as far as Senran Kagura. If that's okay with you, by all means. You even get buffs for clothing damage.

I started thinking the same after the anniversary. CH making barely any mention of the new mainline makes me think it's either pure vaporware or stuck in development hell. Very unpleasant SK7 flashbacks.
Uni is still my universe, though, and she'll remain so even after CH goes kaput.

Rebirth 3 is my favorite Neptunia game. 1 is pretty enjoyable for the most part, 2 was a bit of a slog outside of doing a few specific endings.

like the purple bitch keeps coming back but it's just about always a new universe version of her, not actually the same person although they all intrinsically hate Neptune for some reason, she'll probably keep getting brought back by ASIC because the goddesses refuse to make a fucking example of them but otherwise it's more likely that small fry like Warechu will fill the void she left. It's actually kinda funny because she doesn't have any real reason to exist because Warechu already expressly engages in selling pirated media, but for some reason a bunch of rubes always wanna worship her and ultimately help her kill everyone(besides gamemaker where she was just compa's excuse to seethe about gacha again).

Neptunia is sort of a split between tactical rpgs and turn based rpgs, where battles still take place when encountering enemies on the field and thus grinding is possible but fights take place in a giant circle where characters first move and then attack. all basic attacks and many special moves have aoe damage, and there are advantages to attacking from the sides and back, so mob fights are more interesting than most turn-based rpgs but it isn't as much as a slog going through turns as a normal tactical rpg. although special moves have lengthy animations(all animations are skippable by pressing/holding right bumper, though), basic attacks and enemy attacks are all very quick so the pace is fairly fast. they've also been branching into action-rpgs as of... like half a decade ago. pretty much any spinoff, really.
