Name a single game where the main character of the previous games passes the torch to the newest main character but the game was done well and no one had issues with it.

Not that one, since DMC4 still gets dunked on to this day.

DMC4 did it better than any other game, it was still flawed but compared to stuff like Bayonetta 3 or NG4 the handling of the new protagonist makes DMC4 look like a masterpiece.

Not DMC4, at least personally I don't feel like it was "passing the torch" kind of game
Nero's introduction felt like: Welcome to the family, now you have to share your room with this new family member type of thing

Nero is based and I don't care what the haters have to say. Vergil, Dante and Nero are all likeable characters. Even V was but I guess his character is one and done.

Nagoya left and Kiryu immediately was back sharing the spotlight with Kasuga.

Sure, fans were tired of Kiryu at this point and wanted him to move on, but it seems the SEGA suits themselves weren't ok with Kriyu leaving for good.

Literally killed the series, nobody bought Ninja Gaiden 4.

It was one of the first modern games that introduced the "now you get to replay every level" shit
I remember fuming hard back when it came out despite the super smooth gameplay and hype cutscenes

Most games with custom characters do this just fine, they kind of have to or people get pissed.

does yakuza 4 count or not because you play as shun akiyama off the rip?

I’m considering OP’s question as an “at the time” sorta deal, not from the perspective of the current day

>Atelier Series Arland Trilogy
each game takes place in the span of 5 years and you meet the previous protagonist within the first year and they actually join your party which is nice for a JRPG.

That's the problem with the statement presented in OP: there are plenty of sequels where the game is good and the new protagonist is done rather well(MGS2 Raiden comes to mind), but they explicitly state "no one had issues with it", and it's much harder to find examples where monkeys didn't chimp out over "new thing bad me want old thing"

You from an alternate timeline? I was excited for Nero ever since he was unveiled in TGS 2006 and loved his character when the game finally dropped a year and a half later. I was the minority. Most other fans ranged from indifferent to critical. Even as a Dantefag, I could never grasp it.

It wasn't until the series' revival with DMC5 after DmC: Devil May Cry almost certainly killed the franchise, did people fully warm up to Nero.

Yeah, good point. In that case, I can't think of any other examples which have never led to terminal seething. At least not in series' I've ever followed/

It worked for literally one game and then Kasuga had a filler story in Hawaii where nothing happened while Kiryu took the lead again

>and the new protagonist is done rather well(MGS2 Raiden comes to mind)
Kojima, a man notorious for sticking to his ideas, wouldn't have made a new character in MGS3 created solely to appease to Raiden haters as a punching bag, and then completely change Raiden's character in MGS4 in order to try making him more appealing, if what MGS2 introduced was done well.

Raiden is better liked today solely out of Metal Gear Rising's fame, which is as far removed from MGS2 as possible.

I'm talking from the perspective of someone who only played MGS2 WAY after the fact, and after having gone through most of the rest of the series already.
MGS2 Raiden is unironically an extremely solid protagonist who has a whole lot of good going for him. Most people's problems with HIM(not the fact that "he isn't Snake") that I've heard boil down to "he complains too much", which is really just "he points out that a whole bunch of the stuff he's doing seems like bullshit and doesn't make sense", and he is actually correct in the context of the story.
>Kojima wouldn't have-
Kojima CONSTANTLY puts in goofy nonsense and pokes fun at himself for shits and giggles.

Suck a dick faggit. I REFUSED to touch NG4 specifically due to Fagkumo.
Talk about killing NG for good.
It's like making a new Mario game but instead of playing as Mario you play as some fucking Pianta for 80% of the game.
