This is a PSP game running on original hardware. How in the fuck did they do it?
Anonymous No.725145318 [Report]
Devs back then actually knew how to optimize shit instead of just trying to fix everything with stronger GPUs.

Bro they're driving on a flat empty plane with the simplest deform physics possible. It's not that complex.

You clearly weren't sentient in the 2000's. As such your opinion is worthless.

this had like 3 minute loading times between menus & stages

The PSP was essentially equivalent to a gamecube in power. The discs were even the same storage size.

It loads almost instantly from the memory stick.

ask a modern dev to do the same using modern tools and make it run in a low end PC

It's basically a PS1.5 in terms of power.

I'm still mad we didn't get a decent Gran Turismo on the PSP, even a port of gt2 with upscaled graphics would be a hit

Did the one on PSP suck or something? I never played it.

The problem with PSP is the screen looked really bad and the controls felt really bad. It made it so what could have been enjoyable software wasn't enjoyable at all. The concept should have worked, they fucked up the execution. And they misunderstood the demands of the market.

None of this is true.

Even a low end pc is too much, the psp cpu is like a pentium 2 233mhz at best.

The screens of each revision were good for their respective release dates. The 1000 looked amazing in 2005, its level of ghosting is ridiculous now, but compare it to contemporary handheld sized LCDs.

Nah, its almost PS2 level, helped it by the fact it only has to render half the pixels per second (480x272 vs 640x480).

There are plenty of games that can run a toaster.

PSP was the handheld that finally beat Nintendo's offering. The DS was good, but its library was one of the biggest dumping grounds for shovelware, thanks to the popularity of Brain Age and Nintendogs.

>How in the fuck did they do it?
developers knew code
Now it's all just copy-paste from github

PSP internally is a bit like a streamlined portable PS2, it's not gonna be faster than one but it's close enough plus pushing less pixels that you can pull off some good shit
it at least has to be good enough to be able to run ps1 games well

I put loads or porn on it. And limewire songs, homebrew, had a ps1 emulator and played thru ff7 and 8

You are so laughably wrong. The screen was good for the time and the controls are still fantastic. Were you even alive at the time?
The PSP was amazing piece of tech.

>8 simple models in a flat arena slowly bumping into each other
OK? Even the GBA could do 3D racing and it was a pile of shit.

original psp, not having a second thumb stick was a real negative. I sunk a ton of hours in portable ops and gta stories, and at times it was painful for long sessions. Vita fixed that but I never got a vita

I'm saying someone who doesn't remember the early 2000's is lacking the context for what technology was like at the time.

The PSP was great for it's time. There. The DS was like a PS1.5 (nearest neighbor low poly), PSP like a mini PS2 AND you can watch PORN on it (easily at least)

It was like a mini pc like the gpd win 4. Playing manhunt 2, crisis core, ratchet clank, it was nuts how good the graphics were compared to the ds.

I remember Flatout running at sub 10FPS on my PC when it came out because my GPU sucked so much.
So for me it's black magic.

Low resolution. My UHD 630 can ran any modern game that supports 640x480 or less.
Anonymous No.725159613 [Report]

There's more to it than that. The developers had to port their game to its MIPS CPU and custom GPU.

The PSP was essentially a PS1.9. 2.5x slower than the PS2 and about 40x times faster than the PS1. It wasn't faster than the GameCube.
