the vigilants of stendarr should have become hostile if you were wielding daedric stuff
too bad todd hates roleplaying elements in his roleplaying game

This is the same game where the vampire-hunting faction sees a vampire roll up into their home base carrying an elder scroll and gets a little annoyed and politely asks her to leave.

i think it because i remember walking to a white structure over a dungeon in oblivion and always opening a chest around the back usually early on after doing the arena quests that caused a quest dialogue to start and trap an annoying quest item in my inventory

Oblivion's daedric quests were all fucking terrible and no one talks about it. All of them aside from Sheogorath's were just >Go to this place conveniently 50 steps away and kill this guy to get my item
There's literally zero writing or variety behind any of them.

Oblivion's skeleton key? Just off the top of my head I haven't played either skyrim or oblivion in a decade but I remember that quest was more than just go 50 steps away.
>Go kill the unicorn that's standing oblivious in the middle of the forest just over in the next valley so we can spawn it without you seeing it
vs
>Talk to people to find out about the werewolf eating people in Falkraeth >Talk to Sindig get given his ring and tasked to hunt the white stag which is basically the whole Oblivion quest but with variety in its spawning and AI that's slightly less retarded >Hunt Sindig in a cool unique area under a bloodmoon and get the choice to kill or spare him for different rewards and dialog
