Why space game no star trek
Why can't Vidya quest writing for space games do what startrek can do in one single episode and on a shoestring budget?

Good writers are rare + nobody knows what good writing even looks like these days + audience will tolerate slop writing anyway.

Watched a 'best episodes' list for trek and a good number of those episodes were an (((homage))) to Enemy Mine.

Did you know some highly rated episodes of startrek were written by fans? Others used their ideas but retooled the script mostly.
Happened during a writers strike but they had an open mailbox to fan ideas.

Imagine having a videogame writer do that. They'd turn their nose up at the idea of gamers.

The Okudas eventually became lore supervisors for all of trek as a whole. They started as prop manufacturers.
Thats what gaming needs.

That's basically what gaming had. Good luck selling an exec on being happy with the idea that their new game could be outcompeted by a mod of their old game that they don't own.

It was good that they never made any more star trek after ENT
It is good that ENT died before it ended
ENT was always good
DS9 was always good if misguided like a rebellious teen
Star trek was always good

Can you guys believe it's been 75 years since it ended?

Good writing, art direction, level design, programming and leadership are becoming increasingly rare.
So much is outsourced, without vision, and overseen by companies that care only for fiscal reports.
What they absolutely nail is marketing, bombarding "journalists" and streamers with drivel, and that's just too effective with modern gamers to change anything.

Yes, Roddenberry's pitch was pretty neat, it's weird that they never made any TV or movies about it.

I've never seen Star Trek. If I were to watch a single Star Trek episode which would it be?

Nothing can be done on a shoestring budget anymore. Writer and actor unions demand premium pay, and other workers usually draw significant salaries as well. Inflation, rent, cost of utilities have gone through the roof. Modern Trek episodes can cost more than a million a pop, which is why television series are now much shorter than in the past, 8-12 episodes instead of 20 or more. Games are no different. And writers these days are morons with little practical real world experience from which to draw inspiration. Most go straight from their liberal college writing courses straight into these jobs and it's reflected in their writing, which always portrays politics and identity from a certain point of view, and they can't create compelling characters who are anything more than their identity.

Devil's advocate, that was already true by the time of 90's scifi. Look at any of TNG's contemporaries and you'll see they're all headed by college boys like Grant and Naylor.

>In The Pale Moonlight
Doesn't work without the build up of the Dominion War and Sisko's character. If it's going up against Measure of a Man I'd say Duet instead.
