something you can skip, roll your eyes at, and move on from while still enjoying everything else.

But ugly characters especially when the main character is ugly
completely ruin the experience. It kills any sense of excitement or fun when you have to look at goblin faced characters with mean expressions. They don’t have to look like perfect sex dolls, but they should at least be cool and interesting to look at.

However it's not just about "woke writing" (referencing/virtue signaling about modern American/Californian/Western European identity politics about LGBTQ, BLM, immigrants, gross sex liberation and whatnot) but also about "Joss Whedon" writing which utterly raped every western medium.

So even if the game doesn't have American political agenda if it's still written with quips, sarcasm, misanthropy, irreverence and sardonic tone then that's also a massive problem.

However you're right. Ugly characters are a much bigger problem.
If the game was completely void of shit writing or was at least ignorable it would still be bad if the art style/character design was disgusting and unappealing. These are VISUALS and they really matter in VIDEO games.

The deal starts to break when they start demanding full prices for their slop. This is when visuals and writing, if prominent, become truly intolerable. Because the modern/western devs think gameplay isn't the main selling point and spend half of the budget on visuals and story BUT they also make it ugly - shrinking the gameplay focus at a detriment to the whole package.
So the $90 games would in theory have $30 worth of the actual game, $30 of excruciatingly scanned Hollywood actors and $30 of elaborate writing and narrative. And if just one of these things is gross, it becomes a bad deal that only cucks would buy.

I'm not buying that shit lmao. Never. Not even at deep discounts. I don't even pirate Snoy and westacuck shit that gets ported.

The issue in my opinion isn't entirely that they're ugly - it's part of it. But not all of it. People obviously prefer good looking characters. Every single time people get access to character creation systems, they always try to make pretty characters that appeal to them. Crappy games sell more by appealing to sex. Everyone wants to be pretty or play as the cool guy or girl.
But that's beside the point - the point is that by choosing to have a character look so aggressively against typical beauty standards, they're making a statement. A statement that will infest almost every other part of the game; that's my issue.
This type of mentality doesn't exist in a vacuum. If you have one part of it that is like this, then there is more. It infests every part of the game. Just look at things like Dragon Age. Aggressively ugly characters that challenge typical beauty standards and tend to be typically more aligned with extremist leftists. And the game itself is also filled with these themes at every turn. It's not just that the game was bad. It was, but the writing followed suit because they were so focused on creating not only safe PC story but filling it with modern socio-political commentary.

In the case of modern western video gaming, you SHOULD judge a "book" by it's cover. Because that cover tells you absolutely everything you need to know about the creators and how they think.
