Have they improved performance at all? I have a beastly rig but no matter the settings I could never get 0.49 to run decently consistently throughout the game. Places like Balmora would literally tank my FSP from 120+ to single digits just looking in the wrong direction. I'm not chasing crazy high frame rates or anything, but solid 60fps, 1080p, decent settings shouldn't be a crazy ask. Maybe just a limitation of the engine and nature of the beast though.

Still really appreciate just how fucking good OpenMW is though. Bless the entire spergy Morrowind community and all you mad cunts that have kept the game alive for over two decades.

OpenMW is indeed great, but it's unoptmized garbage that will straight up melt your CPU and GPU. You can try giving some of the tweaked performance configs around a go.

that's just morrowind
I'm pretty sure they want to optimize it but I'd guess it takes a ton of work
Anonymous No.725205892 [Report] >>725219964
>>725203492
>Have they improved performance at all?
Nope. OpenMW has a lot of neat graphical features brute forced into it with zero optimization. Lots of the art is hilariously poorly optimized to. You can certainly improve it with a lot of cfg tweaking and figuring out what causes the biggest performance impacts, or try other peoples configs, but performance still isn't what you'd expect from how the game looks. Maybe in a decade when all the big mod projects are done they'll move onto opimization kek

Best advice I can give, tweak it to be visually vanilla +, don't go fucking crazy with the insane draw distances, cell caching, reflections etc, great for promotional shots, but if you're playing like that the second you go anywhere with more than a dozen NPC's it'll lag.

Bethesda's cell system was never about actually creating big open worlds, it was about creating the illusion of them with thousands of tiny little instanced worlds, the second you start merging those cells into an actual open world you run into very real engine limitations. It's why none of their games have ever had big cities etc....well except for Daggerfall, which is a technical marvel honestly.

I have a 3070ti and a fucking r7 2700x with some shitty ram and some discounted nvme and it runs flawlessly for me in all areas maxed out at 1440p, I think your rig isn't as beastly as you believe it is thirdie

Everything depends on whether it will be able to support the OBSE mods.
The remaster is just vanilla Oblivion with better graphics and animations, and I see no reason to play vanilla Oblivion. At least Skyblivion is going to have unique dungeons and some Skyrim mods, if it ever comes out.

Oblivion running in OpenMW means you can use any OpenMW mods currently functioning. there is a whole host of OpenMW mods that totally mog the Oblivion / OBSE modding scene as it stands.

Nah, the original engine jankiness is perfect for me, been modding it for years without issues. There is even a memory mod now. I feel bad for those who need to resort to openMW to play. It doesn't even look like the same game.

I have no issues with TR content, FPS or crashes now after the memory mod. Used to have CTDs once in a while before it, but you just learn to save regularly, part of the charm. And my install is several years old now with hundreds of mods. I even updated TR over several years on the same install.

Only thing that I've seen from the openMW which I would like is the dynamic actor mod but eh I can live without it if I get to have MWSE. To me all the OpenMW mods look like shit anyways compared to how seamlessly MWSE mods fit in the game.

Trainwiz No.725228007 [Report]
>>725227673
My big playthrough I've been doing is MWSE focused, but that's because when I began lua support didn't exist in OpenMW. At this point it comes down to your tastes, though a lot of the magic and interface and QoL mods I use are MWSE exclusive, last I checked.

Fundamentally everything up to before Creation Engine is fair game since they just iterated on the same engine and tech over and over and over, and Creation Engine itself is fundamentally the same thing at its heart but with more bandaids, broken bones and shattered dreams on top. If you can get Morrowind mostly working fine and ported, you basically have the heart to keep building on from there. It would be like if someone open source cracked the Halo Combat Evolved iteration of Blam, because every game after that up to Infinite iterated on the same engine to excess, to the point that the Tags for enemies, weapons, items, can technically be imported between different games so long as there's no vaulted/removed code.
