What QOL features from EU4 have you noted are missing in EU5?
For my part, during a Byantium game: there's no way to indicate to an ally which territories you want to claim/occupy.
Nor is there a way to persuade the AI to give you occupation of a province.
Meaning, if an ally in a war occupies a piece of territory you want, there is literally no way for you to get it from them besides cheesing.

This means that your building is unprofitable
When a build is unprofitable it loses 10% of its workforce every month until it is empty (like your tool guild in your pic). It will start hiring people again when it can operate profitable. The most likely reason why multiple building have this problem in your game is because you have -70% prosperity in the location which makes loots of lesser valued good unprofitable to make. You should use the "recovery effort" cabinet action if you want to quickly remove the negative prosperity.
You can also subsidies building if you really want them to produce a good regardless of profits.

Funnily enough, your vassal can be in a PU underneath someone else. I vassalized Byzantium as Ottomans and they at some point fell under a PU with Serbia. They still are loyal to me though.

If you call it in your capital you get a boost to centralization. If you do elsewhere you get a boost to decentralization.

I also turned on automation and just built marketplaces soon. But I think the RGO building in Den Haag that produces dye was really profitable.
I only switched automation off when I had a specific mission task like "procure 4 goods from different markets", did that and then changed back.
I don't know what's the problem, it didn't take that long to get going. I gave my Buergerijs privileges that increased trade stats, maybe that's it.

Been "playing" Austria(becoming emperor is so insanely easy compared to eu4), playing being mostly digging through all the UI and figuring shit out. I think I've only gotten to about 1400 before I ditched that save. I naysaid the game a lot but there is a lot I do like here, and a bit I don't, overall though more positive than not.

I dont have the latest and greatest pc, more than enough for a map game but the performance terrible, par for the course. At low on everything, the game hiccups on menu and snags here and there zooming in and scrolling around with only europe and north africa revealed, 28,000 provinces was a mistake. Big ass useless avatar portraits taking up real estate. Also have had some very strange alliance breaks with no reason to be found and are willing to ally up until they tank my opinion. Messing around with the dynastic/vassalage shit I have encountered some bizarre situations that I'm not entirely sure what the fuck triggers them. Such as my emperor bebopping along then suddenly his nephew is emperor while the former is made to fuckoff to some backwoods in switzerland that i made a union with earlier, he even got to keep the regalia. I'm pretty sure that one was bug related but there have been some less strange things happen like that and I don't hate it.

What speed do you guys play at?

Can a Portugal/Spain enjoyer explain to me why they like those nations so much? Even in eu4 they bored the shit out of me. The thing is that I love playing and building colonial empires as well. Though I always prefer doing it as weird unconventional nations like Scandinavia/Germany/Italy. Literally the only fun I ever get out of Iberia is if I'm playing Granada or Navara. Is there something I'm missing or am I just an autistic alt-history lover and will never be able to enjoy the big 3 Iberian nations.

Currently the best thing I can come up with to inspire me to play them is using the small amount of Cathar heretic pops in/near Aragon to try and revive the religion while doing colonial stuff and forming Spain. Should mention I'm only playing them to get the chevos. So I'm mostly just curious to know what people find fun about these nations.

Not really. In eu4 for example it's not particularly hard to begin colonizing quickly as a nation in the areas I listed. Portugal starts with an explorer sure, but it's not like you have to wait long to get one yourself if you pick exploration ideas first.

I mean Norway starts with Iceland for quick North American colonization. A north German nation like Lubeck or Brandenburg is gonna fight Denmark for control of Lubeck trade so they can just take Iceland during that as well. In Italy you can fight with Aragon for control of Sardinia and take Iberian land during that to make your way to the Americas also. It takes some setup but you can absolutely start colonizing at the same time, if not before Spain or Portugal depending on how well you get started.

It's appears like it's even easier to make weird colonial empires in EU5 as well since you don't need to worry about colonial range anymore.

Here's my review.

Pros:
>game is very fun and has tons of variety depending on what you want to play
>mechanics go very in-depth, but it is not punishing if you don't want to engage with them. I loved the Columbus exchange mechanic, but I couldn't engage it with a lot besides planting tobacco and chili in Hungary
>there are tons of little details everywhere, a playthrough can take easy 30-40 hours, and I think I only discovered the parliament discussion menu around 1760 (and by accident)
>warfare is very fun, the huge map could nearly allow you to larp as Napoleon moving 120 thousand corps in battles all over the place

Cons:
>the AI is not aggressive enough. Ottomans failed to conquer Byzantium, the russian states are still slaves to the Golden Horde even when they outgun them
>Castille gave up the reconquista, France invaded Iberia, then France collapsed

EU3 and EU4 felt like scarier games. This game is more complex, but it is not harder than EU3. Playing as Hungary in EU3 and EU4 is very scary.

Pic related is the CONTROL map. You get income from a province proportional to the control in it, and you expand control with infrastructure and government buildings.

FWIW you'll be ignoring most of them for a while, early on you want to work on expanding RGOs. Just stick to unique buildings if you have any until after the Black Death. Hospitals are also nice before the Black Death to try to offset the massive population decline. After that you can stick mostly to whatever the game recommends for increasing income. Just be sure to build the top couple of income buildings so you don't flood your local market with too much supply and crash the price of the good. It's also a good idea to build a few naval infrastructure buildings since London is a great natural harbor and England can get a lot of control from sea presence.

My point is that you created your own definition of colonization and then complained that the Iberians didn't fit into it. It sounded more like you enjoyed the struggle to reach a colonial empire than properly owning a colonial empire, and since the Iberians are ahead of the pack you can't enjoy that. You never mentioned England but you should have the same problem playing as them. Some people do enjoy just flowing the money back home and playing tall, but you can just do like Spain historically did and waste the money fighting in Europe. Your end goal for the campaign doesn't have to be colonizing America.

If you get a scripted event there is always one option highlighted as the one that happened.
With this option on the AI will pick that one always.
As an example there is an event chain for France where yo promote a commoner to cabinet who will give you good perma modifiers.
At the end other estates are jealous of him and the the historic result will give you short term rewards while killing him and abolishing all the juicy perma modifers.
The meta choice is to take the estate lower opinion while enjoying the perma modifiers.

ROG is its own thing and if you are able to build profitable ones (dyes are super based as other anon said, also salt). Burgers work on the production buildings I posted about before, and they automatically appear rather quickly. Obviously only build in places where you have control. You can see in proximity map mode if building a road will help control, often it doesn't because those locations are easier reached by sea.
