Controls are good, resembles the OG but less janky, nice oomph feedback from boost charges, will have to see how other air ride machines control in the full demo tomorrow. I don't like how sensitive quick spins are, I kept doing them by accident. Hopefully I get used to it, or they let you map spins to a button. Seems way too sensitive. Also, boost panels boost you automatically and boxes require quick spins to break instead of ramming into them over and over.

Gamefeel is really nice. Great sound and vibration feedback. I like the star slide mechanic, and the smooth landing boost (can’t remember id that existed or just bad landings)
The machine jacking mechanic is insanely strong. The range you can initiate it at is crazy, and it auto locks on for you to steal it. I thought it would require careful driving to bump into them, which would have been cooler to pull off imo, but the threat of getting your ride stolen is much bigger this way, which will create a fun sense of panic, so it may be a better implementation

Being able to break on a dime by holding A + Back feels a little strange.
A little annoying that there is this damage effect if you hold your nose down while traveling on the ground, but I guess Sakurai really wanted to hammer it in that holding forward is bad and not how to accelerate.

I turned HDR off completely and now it looks a lot more like how Air Ride looked in my memory but it still persists a little.

Just tried the demo and disappointingly the game is clearly running 1080p or lower docked. I don't understand what's going on with Nintendo's games resolutions this year. The switch 2 is about 6x stronger than the switch 1 even without DLSS, so how the fuck do you manage to put out a sub 1440p game? Mario Odyssey looks better than this game and is larger scale and yet the switch 2 version of hat is still 4k. The only new first party games this year above 1080p are Mario kart at 1440p and Metroid at 4k. What the fuck are the rest of them doing here?

holding forward in the original actually gave a bit more speed from what I remember and was sort of hidden thing I remember beating out my cousins when we all had the regular star because they didn't notice.

I didn't get to play if it was up earlier today but is it just me or does the decay on boosts seem super rapid? I'm hoping it's just on the vanilla ass star because you boost from like 26-30 up to 36 and then woop back to 27 almost instantly. Given in a real match your gonna be boosting off a bunch of fucking shit all the time but it seems like the decay is almost instant. I might have been too hard wired on the wing star boosting in flight too much.

It feels like it takes little time for your speed to get to unwieldy in City Trial. It seems like after 30 seconds I'm already constantly holding the break down or smashing into things.

I never played the GameCube original. The only memories I have of it were being around 3 or 4 being at my babysitter’s. Her and her brother would play the GC all day and I just sat and watched. Sometimes they’d hand me the controller during City Trial and I’d just float around.

I’ve only been playing this one for an hour and I’m having a blast. I’m nowhere near good (The highest I’ve placed is 4th in a 7 person final) but this is so refreshing and unique.

I want to keep playing but I’m literally struggling to keep my eyes open now. I’ll try to play just a tad more and hopefully I won’t pass out.
