Robert is burnt out, jaded, and suicidal. He's gets a lot more range later in the game when he's not going through such a dark spot. Most of the ecelebs are bad, but they also don't get enough screen time to really detract too hard compared to the people VA'ed by professionals who do a great job. The Toxic fight was good animation and felt very visceral, but Toxic isn't representative of the dialogue or anything else in the story later, but if you didn't enjoy the interactions between Robert, BB, and Flambae at the bar, you're not going to enjoy this game. I wouldn't say any did a good job, just most are inoffensive. Punch Up is the best of the bunch by virtue of getting type cast so hard so that it fits. Waterboy maybe is 2nd place but I personally found the stutter and word swapping annoying so maybe that's coloring my judgement. In short, both narratively and in deed, Robert is a hero. Just because his life is currently offset, doesn't mean his mental acuity and stability are impinged. He consciously made his decision to devote his life to the superhero cause and doesn't regret his decisions and you have multiple opportunities to express so in the game. The game drives home Roberts heroism and innate goodness multiple times. The narrative just doesn't work if Robert is anything less than a golden boy shipwrecked into calamity through circumstances beyond his control. Which is why the motivating circumstance is due to legacy and history, to further demonstrate that Robert is essentially faultless.

Robert is a hero with a suicidal death wish who was happily going to die in the suit or ruin himself trying, and will admit as much during the first episode with BB and it's further hammered in with how he had cut off everyone from his life including Chase, his pseudo father figure, the absolute depression apartment, him looking at the family leaving the office longingly, and every other time he shows how mentally damaged he is. There is a huge gulf between being suicidal and stoically recognizing your profession is inherently fatal. He knows personally and categorically that he is most likely to die being a hero but commits to it anyways because of innate goodness, as Chase states. And for the sake of argument, the lynch pin in any discussion is how very different Robert treats Blazer than Visi. Blazer is stable and adjusted and so Robert has no qualms about entering into a relationship with her immediately. Meanwhile Visi needs to prove herself to Robert first but also a traumatic event is going to be required to shatter Robert's boundaries in order for him to be willing to engage Visi in a relationship beyond friendship. And that is actually the opposite of healthy, really. It means Robert's mental health needs to take a hit in order to court Visi to bring him closer to her level where such a decision even begins the make sense.
