honestly the Krogans real problem isn't even their violent tendencies - it's how absurdly quickly their population grows when there's nothing thinning their numbers. One thousand live young per two Krogan a year? It is genuinely impossible for any form of infrastructure to be built that can even hope to match that sheer population explosion. And when those children all reach sexual maturity? Each one is gonna produce another thousand young. The genophage (if it is the glorified abortion plague I remember where almost all those children are stillborn) is absolutely vile, but the fact is that the Krogan cannot reliably build a civilisation with that level of reproduction.

They set up a new "backstory" for the new game that's a long time after ME3, which explains how even if you cured or didn't cure the Genophage (and like 100 other things) some convergent event happened anyway, which leads to the same point in history.

The only real ramifications we're going to feel from ME3 in the new game in terms of creating a character is whether history remembers Shepard as someone who helped the Krogan cure the Genophage, or whether they had to do it themselves, and resented Shepard for the sabotage.

It is indeed very difficult to care about it. Like, no matter what, the idea is that the franchise must continue and no bad outcome can happen, regardless. And it all hinges on liking the new cast to carry the franchise, which they won't. And even if you think Bioware will be smart about it and at least make this great plot, they're not. Send in some criminals sentenced for execution (D Class lol) - then isolate to find out the time it takes for them to get indoctrinated - then we now have a time table to workout for indoctrination and study of collector data to find weaknesses/information. Also go grab Shiala since she is proof the indoctrination can be partially undone which means there is the possibility of fully undoing it by studying the effects of the Thorian - speaking of go see if we can find the Thorian's corpse and study that too. Also why the fuck would Mordin let Cerberus only have the collector base. Same for a few other aliens with connections to various governments (Garrus, Samara, Tali, Legion, Thane has connections to government level Hanar, Grunt even counts). Whole argument is stupid. And you know Mordin/Miranda might take a look at fixing Thane - Miranda can literally resurrect the dead - it's just a lung issue iirc - they should be able to mitigate the symptoms/fix it. At least long enough that he could still be able to fight in ME3. She's a good author in the sense that she's highly egotistical, which was also true of Drew Karpyshyn or Mac Walters. Yes, you get some struggles between lead and senior writers, but at least it won't turn into a Baldur's Gate 3 thing where the story just becomes a bunch of whimsy shit by the end because no one has a strong enough vision.

My concern with her tenure is mainly that i think the original Deus Ex has a kickass plot, but Human Revolution and Mankind Divided suffer from highfalutin. When you get to the "big moment" in Human Revolution the story feels like it wants to be more insightful than it is, and the plot becomes too vague, before the characters start "philosophizing".

It's too drenched in pretention and bad articulation of its own narrative, but at least it has polar opposite factions that each represent their own world-view, and you're picking between them.

So I feel like the "politics" aspect that is so darn important for Mass Effect is gonna be respected with her as the writer. Maybe it won't be great, but it won't feel like Andromeda where the cushiness of its writing kept it from having genuinely interesting political characters.

And that Lessons From the Screenplay dude also worked on the script for this one. I feel like he might be better than most game writers because he almost made his break in screenwriting but fell short, while most game writers are simply internet fanon writers who got a Journalist gig and then ended up at a corporation through nepotism.

there's no debate to be had over the morals or long-term consequences - the Reapers are about to kill everyone and you desperately need large amounts of resilient shock troopers to stall the Reaper advance in the field, the Krogan are the obvious solution

Shepard at this point in the story doesn't know if there is any other option. the solution offered by the Salarians is aenemic and their ships don't actually solve the current problem which is lack of raw infantry firepower.

now if Shepard were to be an omniscient observer of the Mass Effect trilogy he'd know you can just proceed without the Krogan army anyway. but with the limited POV of the fictional character trapped within the story, to Shepard it'd be downright suicidal to reject the entire Krogan army just to ingratiate himself with the salarians. it doesn't matter if the Krogan are subhuman brutes with dangerous long-term consequences for the galaxy, to Shepard it seems that at that exact moment you either get massive amounts of Krogan soldiers or you just get steamrolled by the Reapers because no one is stalling their advance

therefore the obvious choice to Shepard is to cure the genophage. it's not a matter of morals or foresight, it's "it seems if we don't get 500,000 krogan right now, we're all just dead" and any long-term planning needs to wait until the immediate threat is solved. maybe after you cure the genophage you can later down the line come up with a new strain of it

Honestly I think with Wrex and Eve at the head of krogan society they have a decent chance. Wrex as the leader who cured the genophage would have Jesus Christ levels of authority and respect among krogan, and ideally a few hundred years would be long enough for Wrex to instill some sense of decency into other krogan to be adhered to even after he's gone.

However the likelihood of Wrex just dying for whatever reason in the meantime is just too high. He could take a stray bullet or get assassinated or maybe he'd just die of old age before he can have a major influence on krogan culture. And that's not a risk worth taking.

Its definitely gonna be Destroy as canon.
Shep survives, the big bads are killed and defeated forever meaning the story can move on from the reapers, relays being destroyed makes for an extremely easy story to write about how the universe is now inconceivably large and hard to traverse (Cant contact other planets but you know there are other races out there etc.)

It makes sense because you can set the show on a post reaper war earth, and there can be SOME aliens on the planet leftover from the war and stranded after the relays blow up, but most of the cast are humans. Which is a lot cheaper for the series to produce.


Story wise, its gonna be boring because the whole fun of the ME setting is the scale and they're gonna use the destroy ending to limit the scale to the Milky Way galaxy and have it 90% humans
