Mathematicians are the GODs of gamedev.
The best videogames ever designed were designed by mathematicians.

Pic related.

That's more of an interactive toy than a proper game

It was made in the 80's.

Also, it's more complex than most modern games.

Looks like shit. Nobody is gonna play that. Which proves artists are superior

You can make art with the math game though

Truly incomprehensible, therefore this is dumb and retarded and every other slur plus the dev is a hack and a fraud and stupid too

you're simply too low IQ to play it.

Got the starting configuration?
Also, voxel 3d cellular automata are neat idea but visualization will be pain.

lol no, factorio andalmost every game that uses 3d lighting math since the 90's mog this simple shit

It's basically a procedural spirograph.

It's okay. She'll forever live on as a bunch of gliders shooting off somewhere towards infinity.

What is this even supposed to be? You draw something and then it gets collapsed into shapes?

It's a celular automata.

It's just a basic math simulation game.

System Shock had conway's game of life embedded into the walls of cyberspace and that game came out in 1994

This is why working in a team is invaluable sometimes.

I forget the exact rules, but basically every pixel is a cell. If a cell has a certain amount of cells around it that are lit up, the cell either lights on or off. Repeat ad infinitum.
People think it's interesting because certain configurations produce repeating behaviors and it looks like a Space Invaders knockoff..

>this is what math majors call "gameplay"

It's interesting because, although the rules are very simple, it becomes incredibly complex when you try to deliberately create specific patterns or mechanisms. People are still discovering new ways to create certain behaviors and some of the more complex patterns have had years of research put into creating them.

This is less of a game than Powder Toy is, and Powder Toy isn't really a game

I had a version of the game of life that came on one of the Microsoft Entertainment Pack disks. It had actual game mode where players took turns adding blue and red colored cells to the board with the goal of having the most cells before the turn limit is up.
