For fighting games and some rare games like shoot 'em ups, the razer kitsune
For anything with d-pad movement is good/ideal then the retrobit sega saturn
for analog games the xbox elite 2

Which one should I buy?
Ultimate 2 has 1000 Hz polling rate while the pro 3 only has 250 hz

I own ultimate and ultimate 2 (switch editions) and enjoy them.
2 has a different dpad though, it's easier to get diagonals, kind of like the switch pro, which may or may not be better because it can cause false inputs too.

Its cheaper to get a regular DS, buy TMR sticks and pay some local repair shop to replace them for you than one Edge.

It still works for more than a year of heavy use in fighting games, so I guess?
One gripe I have is that the back buttons can't be held if you set it to more than one input.
For example if i set the back button to X then I can hold it as long as I want. But if I set it to X+Y then it will only input them for how long you pressed the inputs when you first set the back button (you can't set the back buttons to multiple inputs through the app either, you have to do it manually)
Anonymous No.725238367 [Report]

In my head, I was getting touchpad + 4 extra buttons + symmetrical layout + adjustable triggers, on a controller that had the proper software support to rebind the touchpad and extra buttons however I desired (a lot of chinkshit as well as Dualsense with back button attachments can only remap to other buttons)
I never knew how shit the trigger stops were or that the inconveniently placed fn buttons block face button inputs while in use until it was already in my hand
>nintendo shit
arguably even tendies shouldn't beyond the consoles, Nintendo doesn't lock out third party controllers like the others do

Why does everyone like these disc-shaped Dpads so fucking much? I also don't like the Sega style ones BUT I can understand why people like them and the market for Saturn/Genesis inspired controllers. Those nu-xbox style discs I just don't understand at all though.

If you have any soldering experience I recommend buying a cheap USB-C female port and removing the wire, it's piss easy to replace the wire with a USB-C port for a replaceable wire, and the shape of the shell suggests that was the original intention for the controller (USB-C port sits flush with the shell and doesn't need any further modifying)

You've got literally four options
>Retrofighters Defender Pro, not released yet
>8bitdo Pro 2, SNES-like d-pad
>8bitdo Pro 3, Playstation Vita d-pad
>MCON, not released yet and pretty goddamn expensive, intended as a phone controller
Everything else is some garbage like the NYXI Flexi that has an Xbox shape and Playstation layout which makes the sticks awkward, or it's just outright a Playstation controller

I'd say never in general, honestly, PS2 and PS3 controllers feel like shit. PS4 is the closest to feeling primo while PS5 is weird, it feels like it's trying too hard if that makes sense.

There wasn't much of a choice during the PS3 era and the 360 pad, while better overall, had the worst d-pad ever. So it was really a matter of preference. Now, 1st party stuff is just outright worse than the chinky ones.

DS4 was almost great, but I don't know a single fucking person who didn't have one break on them. The sub-15h battery life is a big no-no too.

Still rocking my DS4 OG after thousands upon thousands of hours in Nioh, Monster Hunter, DMC seried and fighting games. Maybe I'm lucky but the plastic should be worn down to nubs at this point.

Rotting stick resin on the older versions isn't even remotely the worst part. It's terrible battery life combined with stick and trigger drift. Granted, the entirety of my circle comes from a fighting game background, and fighting games are probably the most wear-inducing genre to play on a controller. However, even people who play on arcade sticks/hitboxes (including me) STILL had those issues with their DS4s. Meanwhile, you could be throwing DS3 at the wall daily, and it would last you a decade.

No Switch compatibility. Its price. I'm sure the d-pad isn't bad, but it definitely looks like something that isn't for everyone.

Xbox is obsolete, it doesn't have a gyro and you need to throw away the old sticks after you solder in new ones. It is ewaste.
>>725247262
Requirement 2 is literally impossible.
A D-Pad is a cheap solution that most people barely use on their controllers, so not a single company is going to put any effort into refining it.
It's so subpar, prone to misinputs and riddled with patents forbidding specific variants that the only reason people like them is because they've imprinted on specific variations of them and have built an irrational preference.

I got the Vader 4 Pro. If you like the Xbox layout then this may in fact be the king.
>crisp very short travel microswitch mouseclick style buttons
>analog/digital trigger switches
>gyro
>hall effect sensors
>adjustable joystick tension
>sensitivity curve/deadzone mapping
>extremely low wireless latency
I upgraded from an Xbox Elite controller and it's not even a fight it's a slaughter.

Reminder that if the controller doesn't have gyro that makes it useless for any game that requires aiming. Reminder that xbox is dragging the industry down and forcing devs to implement aim assist to compensate by refusing to implement gyro, a standard feature on their competitors and most 3rd party controllers for close to 2 decades.
Anonymous No.725262279 [Report]

A lack of any fine camera input and a need for companies to produce their games as multiplats has lead to the rampant oversimplification of games, because you can't move a cursor over a thing to accurately interact with it, can't accurately adjust your heading to move faster and more precisely and can't rapidly adjust your aim to hit something that isn't a lock-on target.
If they allow for gyro, then the market might become more dynamic overall and the reliability of a complacent audience goes away, potentially leaving consoles entirely in favor of PC. There's also a greater potential for a smaller publisher to fill a niche and get ahead.
