They're really not that complicated. You'll learn how to use them within seconds of pressing the B button once or twice in each character.
>oh, this sends out a projectile that I can detonate, and it changes the UI to tell me I can teleport to it if I press A+B

There are aspects of each characters' mechanics that are esoteric, but they really have nothing to do with the basics that you need to play as or against them. Like knowing that Forsburn's clone won't jump as long as you hold B after spawning it is good for dropping it off the ledge as an edgeguard, but it's not necessary at all.

This is why all of the top ultimate/melee/pm/etc players dropped the game. It's just boring. Thats it. It is genuinely boring. The only people that actually enjoys this game are people who were all shitters back on smash ultimate, melee, roa, or whatever other platform fighter they came from. This is why plup can hop in, win literally every tournament, then just stop playing it again because he got bored. There is nothing in this game that could possibly keep people interested. It's just a bland, boring game. No amount of dlc characters, stages, items, workshop, etc will bring interest back into this game. The only thing that could possibly save this game is a roa equivalent of project melee (pm) that mods the game into what it should've been. Removing the ledges, remove shield, bring roa's speed and combo game back, remove floor fucking, then this game will actually be fun. Until then it will be filled with failed smashers and the tournament scene will not have any actual competition as a result. They're trying so hard to get people to watch these tournaments and itll never work because all of the interesting platform fighter top players dropped the game because it's more boring than whatever game they came from.

You cannot tell me in good faith that any of those players you just named actually tried. None of them even bothered learning rivals tech and only played rivals 2 as a secondary game while remaining practiced in melee. Two of the players you named (mango and zain) only played the game for stream content

I play it 3-4 times a week, but I live in America which is the most active region. Sometimes I match with players from Mexico, but it's almost always US West servers, and I always find matches within 10-30s unless I'm playing at vampire hours.

I don't pay attention to player count because as long as I can find people to play with, I'm happy, but I'm surprised to see it's even at ~500 right now. It's in a bit of a lull between characters, and a lot of people aren't interested in the newest character because 1. he's another heavy and 2. he's an original character, not a returning character. Yes, even Rivals has rosterfaggotry.

I don't think accessibility is the issue for me. It's floorhugging that kills it for me. the fact that with all the tech and move spam, even when I do find a hole in it, it gets floorhugged and I don't even get advantage for punishing my opponent.

i personally enjoy dismantling bad players, except clairen and maypul players because their reaction is almost always to double down on their faggotry. i'm a firm believer in the "don't chase maypul" rule that a top player has for the maypul MU.

i do agree that's it's very annoying fighting good players who know how to exploit floorhugging. i don't think it's a coincidence that the most disliked characters are the ones who can dictate the pace of neutral with their own speed and ALSO have a strong advantage in scrambles because of floorhugging: clairen, maypul, and zetterburn.
>clairen has high speed, a small hurtbox, disjointed hitboxes, one of the best floorhug options in the game (dtilt), a good burst option (dash attack), a great grab game, a great combo game, AND additional time to confirm hits thanks to her tipper
kitchen sink character. badly needs a distinct weakness despite not being the best character in the game.
>maypul has high speed, a small hurtbox, disjointed hitboxes that are difficult to contest, fast tilts that cover any mistakes shes makes in neutral and lead to reversals, and a good tech chase game
she has literally everything she needs to dictate neutral.
>zetterburn has high speed, a small hurtbox, great frame data, a frame 2 shine that covers any mistakes he makes in neutral and leads to reversals, and a good combo game
but zetterburn actually has weaknesses, specifically his recovery and how easy he is to juggle.

or maybe a better example, look at olympia. total degenerate masher character, but what does she actually get off of floorhug dtilt? it's short range, easy to floorhug back, easy to jump or run out of, and she's basically fucked the second you floorhug and shield her so-called "shield pressure". the character does not have shield pressure, every single button she can press after jab loses to buffered shieldgrab. she's slow, can't tech chase if you roll out, and her fall speed makes her combo food while her weight ensures she dies as early as 60%. strengths and weaknesses.

idk man, i've been in diamond for a while now (playing etalus essentially since he came out) and floorhugging doesn't feel prohibitive like that to me at all.

not only can you mental stack opponents so they don't have enough time to get a decent punish off of floorhugs, you can also just space your moves better. plus the extra damage doesn't seem noticeable but it does add up, people move out of those fh ranges pretty quickly.

my dash attack is negatively disjointed and it's also my main opener which is extremely susceptible to floorhugging, but 90% of the game it's barely even a factor, and when it does happen it just tells me i need to start mixing things up. i enjoy that aspect of the game too, thoughbeit.

but that's the thing, I have to figure out what moves or approaches I can even do on a floorhugger. I feel my character (Olympia) has to get a specific sweetspotted move off and have it not get shielded or get a grab off to get any meaningful percent on my opponent. Obviously that can be risky so I have to throw out a bunch of fast moves and not commit to any follow ups because they could floorhug those moves and punish me. I feel like I have to kill my opponent with a thousand cuts if they know how to even remotely floorhug. It's probably skill issue on my part for not labbing everything out and only playing a little bit each month, but it's just extremely stressful that I can "win" neutral and yet not win it because of this mechanic.
